PICTURES AND NEWS The Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) funded a visit to St. Albans City School of a Vermont children’s book author from Essex, John Churchman. He and his wife, Jennifer, have co-written a series of books that highlight the sweet parts of animal-specific farm life. The SheepOver is a popular one of their books. Jennifer generally writes the stories while John takes and edits the photographs that illustrate the books. He uses Photoshop to blend his pictures together in a compelling and beautiful way. On Wednesday, John read the book ‘Brave Little Finn” about a young sheep and his adventures around the farm to all of the kindergarten classroom groups attending kindercamp this summer. Afterwards, children got to ask John questions before taking turns petting John’s sheep dog. The questions portion of the visit proved humorous, as, at this age (incoming kindergarteners), children don’t really understand the difference between a question and a comment. Ninety percent of the children who raised their hands had comments to make about their own life experiences or something not clearly related to the story just read to them. Ultimately, the children had a good time and were very happy to be able to take two CLiF-supplied children's books to read at home. Link to 45 Pictures from the reading and visit. NAVIGATORS KINDERGARTEN CAMP - LAWYER Here are some photos supplied by Ms. Lawyer and Ms. Asato-Ditch to give families and idea of what their children have been up to in kindergarten camp.
