PICTURES VOYAGERS 5TH GRADE BRAIN HATS Ms. Bashaw had her students learning about the brain; its’ components, its’ weight in comparison with other species, its’ functions and more. As a fun activity she handed out sheets of paper showing labeled regions of the brain. Students used scissors to cut out these regions that were then colored in and taped together in the shape of a brain hat. Making the hats gave students time to absorb knowledge about brains in a tangible way. Link to 33 Pictures. VOYAGERS WETLANDS WORK - BASHAW The Voyagers are the School’s stewards of the wetlands. Several Voyagers classroom groups were back to work on the trails Wednesday morning trying to make their trails passable after a summer of growth. Students either helped cut and rake back the long grass or they carried in woodchips to place on the trails. We thank them for their work so that we enjoy visits to the wetlands. Link to 20 Pictures. IMAGINATION 2ND GRADE KINDNESS LESSONS Ms. Blaisdell focused some of Thursday, September 8th’s lessons on the topic of kindness. The photographs come from three moments in those lessons. There is a group picture of the students listening to a story about finding a way to change bullying behavior at recess with kindness. Then there is a set of photos of students doing artwork making kindness faces. Finally, there are photos of these students using milk, dish detergent and food coloring to discover that just a few drops of kindness (soap and coloring in milk) can spread around everywhere and make our daily lives better. BICYCLING TO SCHOOL There is an interesting transportation trend at our school. More people are walking to and from school these days and fewer people are biking to school. What factors might explain this change?
