PICTURES & NEWS

TEAM USA

Team USA and the Cadets left school early on Friday to honor Mr. Frank Spendley.  He is a 100 year-old World War II veteran and the father of former City School teacher, Mrs. Lamb.

Mr. Spendley joined the latest Honor Flight that celebrates local veterans and honors them for their sacrifices with a trip to Washington, DC. After the send-off group left, the students were able to meet Vermont Governor Phil Scott.

KITTEN UPDATE

Ms. Margaux reported that the school kittens will be having surgery. They are all three pounds now, and will be going to their furever homes afterwards. Ms. Margaux will be keeping one of the kittens and will continue to try to bring that one in. She hopes to foster more soon!

NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH - BOOKS TO CONSIDER IN THE LIBRARY

Did you know it is National Hispanic Heritage Month? It is celebrated in the U.S. from September 15 to October 15 and recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements in the United States. Checkout these books in our library today!

From Pura Belpré Award-winning author Margarita Engle comes a lively, rhythmic picture book about a little girl visiting her grandfather who is a pregonero--a singing street vendor in Cuba--and helping him sell his frutas.

The little girl loves visiting her grandfather in Cuba and singing his special songs to sell all kinds of fruit: mango, limón, naranja, piña, and more! Even when they're apart, grandfather and granddaughter can share rhymes between their countries like un abrazo--a hug--made of words carried on letters that soar across the distance like songbirds.

Amelia Luisa Martinez hates roads. Los caminos, the roads, take her migrant worker family to fields where they labor all day, to schools where no one knows Amelia's name, and to bleak cabins that are not home.

Amelia longs for a beautiful white house with a fine shade tree in the yard, where she can live without worrying about los caminos again. Then one day, Amelia discovers an "accidental road." At its end she finds an amazing old tree reminiscent of the one in her dreams. Its stately sense of permanence inspires her to put her own roots down in a very special way.
