BUILDING LEGO RACE CARS - CULLIGAN

An Echo Staff member made a second visit to Travelers this school year for another STEM activity. 11-30-2022. The challenge to students was to build a lego car that rolled speedily down a specially built track. Up to four vehicles could be sent down the track at one time allowing students to compare the success of their vehicles against others. Students could redesign their vehicles once they figured out what factors improved speed. Link to 23 Pictures.   Link to 15 Second Long Video.

Transportation to and from the mountain is not included. Yet, for students that will have access to use this pass, we want to make it available.

Any student that would like to have access to a pass and feels they will be able to make use of it, please write a letter of request to Mr. Craib and explain how you are a Safe, Achieving, Caring member of our school community.  Mr. Craib will create the list that goes to Jay Peak. The deadline for letters of request is December 9th

LIBRARY BOOKS

DECEMBER IS THE UNIVERSAL MONTH FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

In 1948 with the memory of World War II still fresh, the United Nations crafted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The very first article states: All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. The document goes on to define what human rights should be respected and protected universally, as well as emphasizing how important it is to do so.  One of the most important things you can do throughout the course of this month – and beyond into next year – is to find common ground with the people around you. Human Rights Month is about acknowledging that people of different cultures and creeds are still people. Take the time to learn about another culture that is different from yours.  Check out some of the books in our library that honor and celebrate human rights!

For most children these days it would come as a great shock to know that before 1967, they could not marry a person of a race different from their own. That was the year that the Supreme Court issued its decision in Loving v. Virginia. This is the story of one brave family: Mildred Loving, Richard Perry Loving, and their three children. It is the story of how Mildred and Richard fell in love, and got married in Washington, D.C. But when they moved back to their hometown in Virginia, they were arrested (in dramatic fashion) for violating that state's laws against interracial marriage. The Lovings refused to allow their children to get the message that their parents' love was wrong and so they fought the unfair law, taking their case all the way to the Supreme Court - and won!

A Step Into History series takes a step into some of the most important moments in history, and discovers how these moments helped shape the world we live in today.

African Americans have resisted oppression from the moment they were first enslaved and transported to the "New World" of America in the 1600s. During the 1950s and 1960s, this resistance led to a widespread movement for civil rights in the United States. Readers will find out how the movement began, what obstacles activists faced, what impact the movement had on the country, and much more.

DRAMA OPPORTUNITY

Students in grades 4-8 who are interested in drama, please fill out this form. Rehearsals will begin some time after December Break. Ms. Maher is hoping to hold auditions for specific roles before December break.

Thank you.
