On Thursday morning in art class he drew and assembled a sticky note Amtrak train on the artroom wall. 1-19-2023 TROUT UPDATE FROM TEAM USA - ROULEAU Here are a couple of pictures of the trout alevin. If you look closely you can see the yolk sac attached on the bottom side of each one. The alevin (baby fish) are getting all of their nutrients for growth from the yolk sac. They are not being fed yet. We will slowly see the yolk sac get smaller over the next couple weeks and then we will begin to put food in the tank. The upside down one is not dead, just resting as the yolk sacs can cause them to tip over. If you look closely at the picture with lots of alevin you can see an egg that did not hatch on the right side of the picture. BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY
Have you set a goal for yourself in the new year? January is a great time to make a resolution and this month we will be highlighting books in our library that focus on goal setting and growth. Little Nelson's given name was Rolihlahla, which means 'troublemaker' in Xhosa, his native language. But his rebellious nature would lead him to become one of the world's most inspirational civil rights leaders and anti-apartheid revolutionaries. Despite the many years of imprisonment and adversity he faced, Nelson remained firm in his mission to end the racist system of apartheid in South Africa. His bravery and resilience was rewarded when he was released from prison and later voted in to become South Africa's first Black president. This inspiring book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the activist turned president’s life. A long time ago in China there was a boy named Ping who loved flowers. Anything he planted burst into bloom. The Emperor loved flowers too. When it was time to choose an heir, he gave a flower seed to each child in the kingdom. "Whoever can show me their best in a year's time," he proclaimed, "shall succeed me to the throne!" Ping plants his seed and tends it every day. But month after month passes, and nothing grows. When spring comes, Ping must go to the Emperor with nothing but an empty pot. |
AUDIO BOOKS AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS St. Albans City School is increasing our reading activity with Learning Ally! We are so excited to share a resource with you that our school has purchased to support your child at school and at home, Learning Ally. Our school now has a membership to Learning Ally, a national nonprofit that provides access to human-read audiobooks through a reading app. They have popular novels that other students are reading and that are engaging. One of the best things about Learning Ally is all the books have human voices. Human voice helps to model what reading should sound like; it pronounces words correctly and helps to build your child’s vocabulary, comprehension and fluency in reading. We can add books to your child’s Learning Ally bookshelf and they can add them too. You can download the free app on your personal computer, phone or tablet and log in with your child’s credentials to add the books they want to read at home or at school. Please email, call, or connect with me if you have questions about how to log in to the account. I hope you take advantage of this wonderful resource we are providing to your child. Readers are Learners. Readers are Leaders. Mrs. Ashley Levine, Librarian St. Albans City School alevine@maplerun.org 802-527-0565 ext. 3755 Link to PDF version of this invitation |
