AUDIO BOOKS AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS St. Albans City School is increasing our reading activity with Learning Ally! We are so excited to share a resource with you that our school has purchased to support your child at school and at home, Learning Ally. Our school now has a membership to Learning Ally, a national nonprofit that provides access to human-read audiobooks through a reading app. They have popular novels that other students are reading and that are engaging. One of the best things about Learning Ally is all the books have human voices. Human voice helps to model what reading should sound like; it pronounces words correctly and helps to build your child’s vocabulary, comprehension and fluency in reading. We can add books to your child’s Learning Ally bookshelf and they can add them too. You can download the free app on your personal computer, phone or tablet and log in with your child’s credentials to add the books they want to read at home or at school. Please email, call, or connect with me if you have questions about how to log in to the account. I hope you take advantage of this wonderful resource we are providing to your child. Readers are Learners. Readers are Leaders. Mrs. Ashley Levine, Librarian St. Albans City School alevine@maplerun.org 802-527-0565 ext. 3755 Link to PDF version of this invitation |

BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY Have you set a goal for yourself in the new year? January is a great time to make a resolution and this month we will be highlighting books in our library that focus on goal setting and growth. New in the Little People, Big Dreams series, discover the incredible life of Rosa Parks, ' The Mother of the Freedom Movement', in this inspiring story. In this true story of an inspiring civil rights activist, Rosa Parks grew up during segregation in Alabama, but she was taught to respect herself and stand up for her rights. In 1955, Rosa refused to give up her seat to a white man on a segregated bus, sparking the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Her decision had a huge impact on civil rights, eventually leading to the end of segregation on public transport. With stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, this empowering series celebrates the important life stories of wonderful women of the world. From designers and artists to scientists, all of them went on to achieve incredible things, yet all of them began life as a little child with a dream. These books make the lives of these role models accessible for children, providing a powerful message to inspire the next generation of outstanding people who will change the world! Michael Jordan. The mere mention of the name conjures up visions of basketball played at its absolute best. But as a child, Michael almost gave up on his hoop dreams, all because he feared he’d never grow tall enough to play the game that would one day make him famous. That’s when his mother and father stepped in and shared the invaluable lesson of what really goes into the making of a champion—patience, determination, and hard work. |
