PICTURES & NEWS EVACUATION DRILL A SUCCESS The whole school very quietly and efficiently exited their classrooms and assembled in the two gyms. If there had been a need for an actual evacuation of the school building and campus, students and staff would have filed directly out of the school and into waiting buses. Instead, each learning community walked to the gyms and clustered together at assigned locations until the drill was over. The experience gave children and teachers a chance to practice the behaviors, order and pathways each classroom group would need to take in the event of an evacuation emergency. The principal was pleased with how well the drill was accomplished by the students and staff. Link to 11 Pictures.
7TH & 8TH GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL WITH GEORGIA The girls played a hard-fought game with Georgia on Wednesday, February 8th. The photos linked below were shared by staff members present for the game. Again, photos were taken by various staff who were there to watch the games. Thank you. Link to 22 Pictures. NAVIGATORS 100TH DAY - EMMONS In Mrs. Emmons class we celebrated 100 days. The children wore crowns and made 100 day frames for their “100 year old” pictures. We also counted 10 snacks 10 times to make 100. We took all those treats home in a little arctic animal box (which we have recently studied as a curriculum). The children also shared their 100 items from home, did 10 frame math drawings, we moved to 100 day school songs and finally we drew a picture and wrote what we would buy if we had 100 dollars:) It was a great day!!! Link to 60 Pictures. NAVIGATORS 100TH DAY - LAWYER The 100th day of school was also a big deal in Ms. Lawyer’s classroom. They wore 100 day hats and took group and individual pictures. They also baked a giant 100th day cookie that required counting to 100 to produce. Link to 38 Photos. INVESTIGATORS 1ST GRADE 100TH DAY OF SCHOOL - ROSS Ms. Smith took pictures of the students working on 100th day of school necklaces in Ms. Ross’ classroom. Practicing counting was a part of the process. Link to 13 Pictures. 10-9-2023

Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) Grades 6-8 Dear Caregivers:
Our school is taking part in the 2023 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). This was developed in 1991 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is sponsored by the Vermont Department of Health and Agency of Education. The YRBS gathers information about health risk behaviors of 6th through 12th grade students. Schools, communities, and state agencies will use the results of the survey to evaluate programs, plan new programs and to secure future funding. We will administer the survey to our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students on February 22nd. If you would like to learn more about the survey or see a copy it is available to view here. If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, please complete the opt out form and return it to Kristen Hersey in the School Counselor’s Office. Copies of the opt out form were sent home with students and are also available to download here. Forms must be returned by February 20th. |

BOOKS TO CONSIDER READING IN THE LIBRARY
The St. Albans City School Library honors Black History Month with a curated booklist of recent works that examine the Black experience. Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in history. These books will honor and highlight powerful stories and can be found in our school library today! | |
They participated in some of NASA's greatest successes, like providing the calculations for America's first journeys into space. And they did so during a time when being black and a woman limited what they could do. But they worked hard. They persisted. And they used their genius minds to change the world. In this beautifully illustrated picture book edition, we explore the story of four female African American mathematicians at NASA, known as "colored computers," and how they overcame gender and racial barriers to succeed in a highly challenging STEM-based career. |
