Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) Grades 6-8 Dear Caregivers:
Our school is taking part in the 2023 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). This was developed in 1991 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is sponsored by the Vermont Department of Health and Agency of Education. The YRBS gathers information about health risk behaviors of 6th through 12th grade students. Schools, communities, and state agencies will use the results of the survey to evaluate programs, plan new programs and to secure future funding. We will administer the survey to our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students on February 22nd. If you would like to learn more about the survey or see a copy it is available to view here. If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, please complete the opt out form and return it to Kristen Hersey in the School Counselor’s Office. Copies of the opt out form were sent home with students and are also available to download here. Forms must be returned by February 20th. |
PICTURES INCREDIBLES & INVESTIGATORS P.E. with Ms Jarvis & Ms. Andrews Ms. Jarvis and Ms. Andrews split the students into four groups. Two of the groups built castles out of hula hoops while the others tried to either defend castles or take down the castles on the other side of the gym with “dodgeballs”. This is a fast and well-liked game that is played in P.E. each year. Link to 19 Pictures. SNOWSHOEING While many 5th, 6th and 7th grade students preferred to work on their cross country skiing skills, others were more interested in snowshoeing through the woods and wetlands with Ms. Jarvis.. Here are four video clips Ms. Jarvis took that are linked together in one 25 second long video. NVAC CHEER COMPETITION On Saturday, February 4th, the school’s cheerleaders attended a competition at South Burlington High School. Ms. Smith was there to take a few photos. Link to 13 Pictures. Meet Amanda Gorman, America’s astounding young poet and activist. From an early age, Little Amanda read everything she could get her hands on, from books to cereal boxes. Growing up with an auditory processing disorder and a speech impediment, Amanda had to work hard, but ultimately she took great strength from her experiences. After hearing her teacher read aloud to the class, she knew that she wanted to become a poet, and nothing would stand in her way. At the age of 19, she became America’s first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate. And, after performing her inspiring poem ‘The Hill We Climb’ at the Presidential Inauguration in January 2021, she became an icon across the world. Erased. Ignored. Hidden. Lost. Underappreciated. No longer. Delve into the unique, inspiring, and world-changing history of Black people. Black leaders, writers, civil rights activists, scientists, and more have influenced, inspired, and changed the societies we live in. This history book’s pages are filled with the stories of these historical giants and their contributions to the world. |
