STEAM FESTIVAL PHOTOS

As mentioned in the previous announcements, the STEAM Festival on Tuesday evening was a big success. Here are more images to look at from that evening. Link to 69 Pictures.

Ms. Tenney took more STEAM Festival pictures and they will be shared next week.

STEAM FESTIVAL CHAIRS

Ms. Dufresne managed a chair building station. The goal at this station was to build a chair with cardboard and masking tape that was strong enough for someone to sit in. Here are some successful results.

TRAVELERS IN-CLASS MAKERSPACE TIME

Mr. Lewis has set aside some morning times each week for their own makerspace activities. Photos were taken of the students working on their homemade board games or on various creative activities. Link to 15 Pictures.

VOLLEYBALL

Volleyball has proven to be a very popular sport at St. Albans City School this year. Here is a picture of students receiving instructions at the beginning of their practice session on Wednesday, March 15th.

WATER BOTTLE RAFFLE WINNERS

Students who walked to school last Wednesday, and who checked in at the front entrance, were entered into a raffle for metal water bottles. A student from USA and another from Travelers were the winners.

MESSAGE FROM VOYAGERS

Next week is International Water Day!

The 5th and 6th graders would like to share some information about the importance of water with their younger peers! Our students will come share that information, and read a story aloud to your Class, then invite them to participate in our "We love Water coloring contest"!

We will select a lucky winner from each grade!

If you are interested in signing up your class, please pick a time slot on the attached Google form and add your name to the time you would like. Hurry slots are limited.

LIBRARY

Curious about Audiobooks at Our School? - Click on this link.

March is Women's History Month – commemorating and encouraging the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in history.  Take a look at the collection of books that you can find in our library!

Link to all the books relevant to Women's History Month.

Here are today's highlighted books...

If you’ve ever felt different, if you’ve ever been low, if you don’t quite fit in, there’s a name you should know… Meet Dr. Temple Grandin―one of the world’s quirkiest science heroes!

The Girl Who Thought in Pictures: The Story of Dr. Temple Grandin is the first book in a brand new educational series about the inspirational lives of amazing scientists. In addition to the illustrated rhyming tale, you’ll find a complete biography, fun facts, a colorful timeline of events, and even a note from Temple herself!

Equal parts picture book biography, inspiring story, and a look at racial diversity in America, It Began with a Page is a gem for any book lover, librarian, or child who dares to dream big.

Growing up in California, Gyo Fujikawa always knew that she wanted to be an artist. She was raised among strong women, including her mother and teachers, who encouraged her to fight for what she believed in. During World War II, Gyo’s family was forced to abandon everything and was taken to an internment camp in Arkansas.

An important book for all ages, Little Leaders educates and inspires as it relates true stories of forty trailblazing black women in American history. Illuminating text paired with irresistible illustrations bring to life both iconic and lesser-known female figures of Black history such as abolitionist Sojourner Truth, pilot Bessie Coleman, chemist Alice Ball, politician Shirley Chisholm, mathematician Katherine Johnson, poet Maya Angelou, and filmmaker Julie Dash.

Please save the date for a community conversation to help the Maple Run Unified School District to be more successful for all students.

Last fall, we held a series of community listening sessions where we spoke with over 90 students and 60 community members. We want to share the priorities we heard and shift the conversation to action steps. We want to hear your input on how the school district should move forward and what the next steps should be. Click the following link to RSVP - https://bit.ly/MRUSDCommunityConversation

Thank you!
