PICTURES NAVIGATORS TASTED MAPLE SYRUP MADE AT SCHOOL - H.O.P.E & ZHELEZKO Mr. Deslauriers and Mr. Hoben have been evaporating the water from sugar maple sap collected on school property over the last two weeks. On Tuesday, 4-11-2023, students and staff from Ms Zhelezko’s class got a chance to taste some of the syrup produced. Groups of 2-3 student took turns getting a tour of the sugar house and evaporation process. Then, everyone from the group sat down and had an opportunity to enjoy a tiny cup of syrup. Link to 16 Pictures. ADVENTURERS TASTED MAPLE SYRUP - H.O.P.E., HOBEN & FARRELL Ms. Sydney’s Adventurers kindergarten group followed right behind the Navigators as they took their turn to observe the syrup making process. They noticed that sap looks just like water and that it takes considerable evaporation of the water from sap to get down to the syrup we are familiar with. The children loved seeing the equipment and tasting the school’s maple syrup. Link to 27 Pictures. ADVENTURERS (BOLTON) - THE SCIENCE OF BEANS IN THE MAKERSPACE - RANKIN Ms. Rankin showed Ms. Bolton’s students that bean seeds are very interesting in many ways. Her dids got to make detailed observations and notes about the beans they were given. They also got to dissect and examine beans with their skins removed and the two halves separated. They used little hand-held magnifying glasses and data sheets to record their findings. Ms. Rankin used an electronic magnifying wand to get a larger and more detailed picture of bean seeds. The beans had been soaked overnight and had begun to germinate. It was a good time of year for this exploratory lesson. Link to 26 Pictures. |
MRUSD COMMUNITY CONVERSATION Please join us this Saturday. We want to bring people together for a community conversation. Conversation is best when we are together. If you are unable to join us in person and require accommodations, please reach out to Erin Rocheleau by Wednesday, April 12th. Help the Maple Run Unified School District to be successful for all students. The priorities are: ● Rigorous academics ● Community education about injustice and inclusion ● Bias and discipline policies ● Support services for students and families ● Family and community engagement We wanted to better understand the challenges people are facing, and to hear people’s hopes for the young people that live and go to school in our community. |
