PICTURES & NEWS

FIRE DRILL
St. Albans City School held a fire drill on Friday afternoon, 5-12-2023. It went smoothly and was helped by the spectacular weather.  These pictures are of learning community groups gathered and waiting to return to the building.

WALKING FRIDAY RESULTS
The rain cleared up just in time for the bus, walk and bike to school event. Link to 28 Pictures

Three hundred and fifty nine students chose the most energy efficient methods for getting to school. There were 15 more bus/walk/bikers than we had last Friday.  The Voyagers had the most participants. Other teams were very close behind them.

The raffle for school store coupons will take place on Monday morning, 5-15-2023.

104 people walked/biked/scootered/skateboarded to school. 96 of those were students. Triumph triumphed.

MAKERSPACE PARENT EVENING - BORST, RANKIN, BERTUCCI
A group of parents had a very nice evening making jewelry, cards and t-shirt logos with guidance by instructors Ms. Borst, Ms. Rankin, & Ms. Bertucci. 5-11-2023.  It was a chance for parents to try out some of the equipment and creative techniques students are exposed to in the makerspace. GRADUATION CELEBRATION FOR MS. BERRY - TEAM DISCOVERY
It is not only students attending St. Albans City School that are working their way through school. Many staff members have achieved or are striving for masters degrees to add to their undergraduate teaching degrees. Ms. Berry on team Discovery just completed her masters and her team organized a surprise party. Here are pictures from that joyful celebration. Link to 10 Pictures

LIBRARY

Curious about Audio Books at St. Albans City School, then check out THIS LINK

May is Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month!  This month celebrates the unique journey of all AAPI immigrants and citizens in the United States and their unique life experiences, traditions and cultures.  Look for these books in our library to help you honor and celebrate the historical and cultural contributions of individuals and groups of Asian and Pacific Islander descent.

To a rock climber, a boulder is called a "problem," and you solve it by climbing to the top. There are twists and turns, falls and scrapes, and obstacles that seem insurmountable until you learn to see the possibilities within them. And then there is the moment of triumph, when there's nothing above you but sky and nothing below but a goal achieved.

Ashima Shiraishi draws on her experience as a world-class climber in this story that challenges readers to tackle the problems in their own lives and rise to greater heights than they would have ever thought possible.

Mindy Kim just wants three things:

1. A puppy!
2. To fit in at her new school
3. For her dad to be happy again

But, getting all three of the things on her list is a lot trickier than she thought it would be. On her first day of school, Mindy’s school snack of dried seaweed isn’t exactly popular at the lunch table. Luckily, her new friend, Sally, makes the snacks seem totally delicious to Mindy’s new classmates, so they decide to start the Yummy Seaweed Business to try and raise money for that puppy!

When another student decides to try and sabotage their business, Mindy loses more than she bargained for—and wonders if she’ll ever fit in. Will Mindy be able to overcome her uncertainty and find the courage to be herself?
