Announcements 11-12-14

Veterans Day

Motorcyles escorted students the whole way to the park!
Older students and their younger buddies paired up for the walk.

Nice job to St. Albans City School for taking part in Veterans Day at Taylor Park!
It was a great day to honor and support our veterans. We were impressed with the speeches about the veterans and our futures from all schools that were participating other than Bright Beginnings.  Fairfield, Georgia, SATEC, BFA, Bright Beginnings, Veterans and other honored civilians that took part in this unique and traditional event.
This was a unique learning experience for everyone who attended and we would like to thank you all for your wonderful behaviors that were used yesterday during the ceremony.  Many veterans complimented our performance and behaviors after the ceremony,  once again thank you students and staff of SACS you were all wonderful yesterday.

Don’t forget to thank the veterans you see for their service to our country on any day. It doesn't need to be Veterans day to say thank you.

How We Celebrate Veterans Day
By: Brianna B.

We celebrate Veterans Day by having parades, services, the laying of the wreath, poppies, and flying American flags outside our homes. Veterans Day is a very special time of year.
During parades, veterans march and fly flags. There may also be red, white, and blue streamers or balloons. Veterans Day parades are a very popular and fun way to celebrate our nations’ veterans. Another way we celebrate Veterans Day is wearing poppies.
People wear poppies on Veterans Day because the poppy has a very special meaning. A famous poem was written about the poppy by a soldier on the battlefield in World War I. The soldier was a doctor who treated wounded soldiers. Poppies grew all around him, because the flower only grows in rooted-up soil. The soil on battlefields are like that, so poppies are a reminder of soldiers who died.
We also celebrate Veterans Day by the laying of the wreath. The laying of the wreath is a very special ceremony. The ceremony happens on Veterans Day at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington, Virginia. During the ceremony the President lays a wreath on the tomb, then steps back and salutes. A bugler then plays “Taps”.
We celebrate Veterans Day in many ways, but these are the most popular and special ways to celebrate.
