Learning Collaboration in Discovery
As adults in this school we have the opportunity to watch amazing moments from young people in our school, in every community, everyday. Team Discovery had one of those moments that was certainly worth sharing. The 4th grade students were paired with a 6th grade student to share how they solved their homework questions. The role of our 6th graders was to listen for accuracy and help catch any misconceptions in their work. The math dialogue between all partnerships was amazing and the teamwork and respect was wonderful to witness. The 4th graders were given the opportunity to show off what they have learned, while the 6th graders were able to feel how far they grown as math students. The adults on our team were able to sit back and observe this amazing collaboration! This was a proud moment! #Raider Pride!

Team Discovery is hosting a March Madness dance Friday, March 25th, from 6:00-8:00PM. The cost is $3.00 and food/drinks are for sale. Wear sports clothing (jersey, team hat/shirt, Raider’s gear, etc.), receive a raffle ticket for a prize drawing. Fun activities to look forward to: dance competition, basketball toss, musical chairs, and more!

Arrival and Dismissal from Dances:
  • Students enter through the gymnasium doors and sign themselves into the dance.
  • School Expectations (Safe, Achieving, Caring) remain at all evening events and that includes dances.
  • At the end of our dances, chaperones and staff will walk students through the building to our front lobby. We will dismiss from there.
  • Please be prompt for pick up as staff and chaperones need to get home, too. If your student does not have a ride home, please don’t send them to our dances unless they have made arrangements before coming to the dance.

Our Snack for the Day is Banana

There are more than 100 varieties of bananas, some even have red skin.  Bananas are the most popular in the united states.  Americans eat an average of 28 pounds of bananas per year.  That equals to about 112 bananas per person per year. Bananas have high levels of sugars, starch, potassium and vitamins A and C.

Hawaii is the only place in the U.S. where bananas are grown commercially. The overwhelming majority of the bananas Americans eat come from tropical countries.

The type of banana you see in the supermarket is called a Cavendish banana. The preferred variety was originally the Gros Michel, which essentially became extinct by 1960, thanks to a fungus called Panama disease.  The Cavendish banana is also in danger of going extinct for the same reason.
