WHOOPING COUGH

Dear SACS community,

It has been brought to our attention there are multiple confirmed cases of whooping cough in Franklin county, including some in our surrounding schools. In an attempt to keep our students and staff as healthy and informed as possible, we would like to share the Department of Health’s most recent update as well as some tips to stay healthy.

Like many respiratory illnesses, pertussis (whooping cough)  is spread by coughing and sneezing while in close contact with others, who then breathe in the pertussis bacteria. Practicing good hygiene is always recommended to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses. To practice good hygiene you should:
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Put your used tissue in the waste basket.
  • Cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow, not your hands, if you don't have a tissue.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Use an alcohol-based hand rub if soap and water are not available.
If you have concerns that your child or yourself may have whooping cough, please contact your primary care provider.

These are pictures of students in the Dreamers community picking vegetables in their garden. They made tomato sauce and then little pizzas. On Tuesday 11-8-2016 Mrs. Williams went out and helped Heather Smith weed around the blueberry bushes.
