EXPLORERS USED BEANS TO STIMULATE LEARNING
Ms. Lavoie and Ms. Lapointe asked their students to germinate and plant lima beans. Children used this experience to write about and draw their plants. It was amazing to see that while all the beans germinated, a few grew much more rapidly than others. The children hope to see their plants grow to full size in the outdoor classroom by mid-September.
VISIT BY ENTERTAINING BOOK ILLUSTRATOR
Children's author and illustrator, Amy Huntington, met 1st-8th-grade summer school students to explain her work, ignite their interest in drawing and to hand out free books. The students were intrigued by her funny and beautifully done drawings and paintings. They especially loved providing her with directions for creating on-the-spot illustrations monsters.
Here is an interesting fact. Ms. Huntington is the mother of our one of our art teachers, Mrs. Tagliamonte, and she also painted one of the most amazing illustrated chairs that can be found in our library.
Amy has a nice website for those who are interested: LINK
