EVENTS AND NOTICES
THE ONLY SEPTEMBER WALKING WEDNESDAY WILL BE ON THE 11th Normally, Walking Wednesdays are on the first Wednesday of the month. Because that would be awkward at the beginning of school year, we have pushed the date back a week to September 11th. In October we will have Walking Wednesdays every Wednesday. LINK TO ROUTES AND TIMES COMPLETED PAPERWORK NEEDED Families, your child should have returned home with a folder of papers to fill out and return to the school. The completed forms are vital to the function of the school. Please send them in to your student's teacher as quickly as possible.
WALKING SCHOOL BUS PROGRAM IS EXPANDING WITH STUDENT LEADERS Only about 13% of our School's students walk or bike to school each day. We want that number to increase and we hope to accomplish this by having paid 6th, 7th and 8th-grade walking school bus leaders guide younger students to school safely. The walking school bus routes will be the same as those used for Walking Wednesdays and leaders will walk five days per week until Thanksgiving. We will also offer the program in the spring. If you are in one of these older grade students, then consider applying for a walking school bus leadership position. Those selected will earn $20/month, or $1.00 per day. You only need to lead walking to school. Leaders will have to be very responsible, reliable, and willing to lead their walking school buses in any kind of weather.
RENAISSANCE NEEDS YOUR COMPOST!
Renaissance is ready to start taking breakfast and snack compost from your classrooms. Please bring it to the Renaissance community and dump it into the buckets at the end of the hall by 2:00 pm each day. Renaissance will compost the food waste to make nutrient-rich soil for the school gardens.
Please make sure there is no dairy or trash in the compost.

PICTURES AND REPORTS
PreK & KINDERGARTEN FIRST DAY
Family members and caretakers for PreK and kindergarten students attended an informational meeting and resource fair on the first day of school for these young students. They heard about busing, the kinds of learning their children will be experiencing and various school staff members that they may need to interact with. Many adults came and stayed for the half-day while their kids adapted to their new classrooms and teachers. 9-3-2019.
Assistant principal, Stacie Rouleau, explained busing etc. to seated family members
Mrs. Biggie helped family members fill out paperwork for background checks for those wanting to volunteer in classrooms or attend field trips
Family members stood in line to talk to Ms. Jehle about busing for their children
TEAM TRIUMPH PICTURE Team Triumph asked for a group picture to add to their learning community website. This might a good time for other teams to do the same thing. Everything is still green and there are plenty of sunny days to make the photos come out well. Contact Mr. Craib if you want a group photo. INCREDIBLES TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITY Students were tasked with building a pyramid of cups using strings attached to a rubber band. It took group coordination to stretch the rubber band wide enough to grab a cup and then carefully stack that cup on top of others. Inevitably some teams dropped cups to the floor where they had to be retrieved to finish the task. Pictures supplied by the team. TEACHER COLLABORATION Teachers gathered in the library space last Friday afternoon to collaborate on educational strategies within and among teams. This will be a regular process made possible by early dismissals on Friday afternoons. |
