DONATION OF FOUR MORE BICYCLES TO SACS BY LOCAL MOTION

Once again, Local Motion has generously shared some of their used and well-maintained bicycles with us. The four mid-sized bikes they gave us on Wednesday tend to fit most of the 4th-6th graders. They will be stored until the weather improves for biking.

Local Motion is an organization that promotes bicycling and walking around the state. Every spring, Local Motion provides our school with a bicycle trailer full of different sized bikes to support our cycling instruction P.E. unit and our annual 6th grade bicycle trip on the rail trail.

What is the Big Deal about Binary Code?

Binary code is one type of coding that uses 0 and 1 to represent letters, numbers and symbols. It is called binary code because it’s made of only two symbols. The “bi” in binary means two!

Binary Code is the language of computers. It is how computers represent all information. To learn a bit more check out these videos:

Binary Numbers for Kids - (watch the first part up to 2min and 43 sec; best for younger grades)

Binary Code- Brain Pop (best for 3rd-6th grades)

Computer Science Basics: Binary (best for 3rd-6th grades)

How Computers Work: Binary and data (6th-8th grades)
