USA SCIENCE - ROULEAU & CIOFFI

Mr. Rouleau purchased a half dozen pig hearts from Bob’s Meat Market to serve as a foundation for a lesson in human anatomy and physiology. Pig hearts are remarkably similar to human hearts in size and function. While many of the students were repelled by hearts that Mr. Rouleau had cut in half, they were also fascinated by the different chambers and valves in the hearts. Using the physical hearts, and several illustrated diagraphs, they were able to learn how human and pig hearts circulates the blood throughout the body. Students had to show they understood the location and function of the heart chambers, valves and vessels.

OPEN DOORS - COMMUNITY SERVICE GROUP - TAYLOR

On Tuesday, December 6th, we made decorations for a new local business right here in Saint Albans. Ashley is the owner of Routine Nutrition and over the weekend we talked and she asked if the kids could make some decorations for the holiday for her business. So we did! In return each child will get a certificate for a free shake or BoBo Tea. We had so much fun and the kids filled the tree! Mission accomplished!  Link to 11 Pictures.

SKIING OPPORTUNITY FOR 6TH-8TH GRADERS

Jay Peak Season’s Pass

We will have a limited number of Jay Peak Season’s Passes for students in grades 6-8. These will be useful for families that ski. Discounted equipment rentals are available. Transportation to and from the mountain is not included. Yet, for students that will have access to use this pass, we want to make it available.

Any student that would like to have access to a pass and feels they will be able to make use of it, please write a letter of request to Mr. Craib and explain how you are a Safe, Achieving, Caring member of our school community.  Mr. Craib will create the list that goes to Jay Peak. The deadline for letters of request is December 9th

LIBRARY BOOKS

Check out some of the books in our library that honor and celebrate human rights!

There were signs all throughout town telling eight-year-old Connie where she could and could not go. But when Connie sees four young men take a stand for equal rights at a Woolworth’s lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina, she realizes that things may soon change. This event sparks a movement throughout her town and region. And while Connie is too young to march or give a speech, she helps her brother and sister make signs for the cause. Changes are coming to Connie’s town, but Connie just wants to sit at the lunch counter and eat a banana split like everyone else.

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA

What is Wreaths Across America?

It is a program where we honor deceased veterans by putting wreaths on their graves. Team USA is working with local Veterans groups to enhance the tradition throughout our community.  Students will be holding a ceremony on December 16th at Mt Calvary Cemetery in St. Albans, VT. This is a national event held each December.  For more information visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org

Please consider supporting these efforts. Order form. Completed forms can be delivered to Team USA.

Thank you,  Team USA
