Due to expected rain and wet fields, field day plans have shifted to Thursday and Friday

Thursday 6/6 9:00-  Explorers and Travelers
              afternoon- 4-6 Communities

Friday 6/7 1:30-  Imagination and Investigators

We will have students from 4-6 Discovery and 1-3 Imagination that
are available to help out at each station during these times. (realizing
that 6th grade will be on bike trip Friday)

Gr. 7 and 8 had their regular carnival day with pre-k/k on Tuesday (6/4)
and will also have access to the field day equipment to use any other
day or time between now and the last day of school.

Field Day Content!
Bring your sneakers (a change of clothes for the water activities might help too!)
on Wednesday and be prepared to have some fun!

There will be four FUN and FANTASTIC  stations that you will be at for 10 minutes each.
*Teachers will be given bracelets to hand out prior to going outside. Each color bracelet
will travel together through the stations and each station will be broken up into two groups (making a total of 8 groups/colors outside at a time). There will also be a corresponding
flag so colors know where they are located and when to move.

THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND - STEWARDSHIP DAY SONG
Stewardship day is Wednesday, June 5th. Here is the song we will use for stewardship day. It was created last June, 2018. Play the video to practice the song.

STEWARDSHIP DAY PLAN

Whole-School Walking Wednesday. The goal is to have an entirely empty parking lot. Every person who can walk/bike to school is encouraged to do so. Family members are also encouraged to join the walking school bus groups. We will be walking between 6:45 to 7:30 AM. Link to walking routes and meet up times. The regular motorized school buses will still be circulating to collect children who cannot walk, primarily Prek/K students. Teachers & staff will park off of school property at the following sites, the further away the better to prevent overcrowding:
   City Public Works Lot
   Holy Angels
   Hospital Parking Lot
   Park and Ride

Teachers and staff for whom walking is not an option should contact Ms. Cavallo to schedule shuttle transportation from a nearby parking lot.

Let's celebrate these athletes who completed at least 100 laps around our walking path over four weeks this past May 2019. They covered an average of 6 laps per day and sometimes completed as much as 15 and 16 laps in a day. Wow!

Ms. Bashaw completed 75 laps and 28 students in Voyagers completed at least 50 laps. Also impressive.
Andrew Corbiere 100 laps = 52 miles

SACS WOODCHUCKS AND FROG
Mr. Pelkey took photos of these woodchucks and frog while doing his work on school property. 6-1-2019

WOODCHUCK INFORMATION
The groundhog (Marmota monax), also known as a woodchuck, is a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots.[2] It was first scientifically described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758.[3] The groundhog is also referred to as a chuck, woodshuck, groundpig, whistlepig,[4][5] whistler, thickwood badger, Canada marmot, monax, moonack, weenusk, red monk[6] and, among French Canadians in eastern Canada, siffleux.[7] The name "thickwood badger" was given in the Northwest to distinguish the animal from the prairie badger. Monax (Móonack) is an Algonquian name of the woodchuck, which meant "digger" (cf. Lenape monachgeu).[8][9] Young groundhogs may be called chucklings.[10]:66 Other marmots, such as the yellow-bellied and hoary marmots, live in rocky and mountainous areas, but the groundhog is a lowland creature. It is found through much of the eastern United Statesacross Canada and into Alaska.[11] . LINK TO REFERENCE

TREE FROG INFORMATION
A relatively large frog species, the gray treefrog (Hyla versicolor) is mainly pale to dark grey, with dark grey, brown or green pigmentation on its dorsal surface (2). The upper surface of the body also features a unique blotchy pattern (2) (3), whose appearance is often compared to encrusting lichen (3). There is a conspicuous white spot beneath each eye (2) (3), and a dark stripe extends from the rear of the eyes to the front of the legs.

The gray treefrog typically inhabits moist woods and forests which are close to appropriate breeding areas including freshwater ponds, puddles, bogs, swamps and marshes (1) (3) (4). During hibernation and rest, this species hides underneath tree bark, leaves, rotten logs, and in tree hollows and stumps (1) (4). When it is newly metamorphosed, the gray treefrog usually remains close to the forest floor, and moves up into the forest canopy as it ages (3). A highly adaptable species, the gray treefrog may also be found around farmland and suburban areas (4). Reference for this writeup.
