SEEKING EDUCATIONAL EQUITY AND DIVERSITY (SEED) FIELD TRIP TO THE CLEMMONS FAMILY FARM

Seventeen students traveled to the Charlotte area on Monday (10-14-2019) to visit the Clemmons Family Farm, one of the very few African American owned farms in Vermont. The Clemmons family has been farming 148 acres in Charlotte since the early 1960s. Mr. Clemmons was a medical doctor at UVM and his wife was a nurse. In recent years the Clemmons opened up their buildings and farmland to visitors interested in learning about African American history and issues of social justice. Our students toured their impressive museum in a beautifully refurbished barn. Our students also spent time creating art in a repurposed iron smith house. A visiting artist from UVM helped them make connections between art that they created and social justice. While on the farm, the students took time to explore the large fields, roll down grassy hills and eat outdoors. It was a great day. LINK TO 91 PICTURES

FAIRFIELD CROSS COUNTRY RACE
Fairfield School put on its first cross country race in recent memory. They had a hilly course that was just short of 2 miles in distance. All our students ran with real grit. Rain threatened throughout the event but fortunately did not dump on the participants and spectators. Isaac Ditch had a standout run, finishing second in the boys race. Elle Tremblay finished high among the girls.  LINK TO RESULTS   LINK TO 56 PICTURES

SACS Time Capsule Activity:
We know a time capsule was sealed behind the 1968 stone block.  That still leaves many
unanswered questions.
  • Is there a tiny opening behind the stone or a huge opening?
  • Time capsules can come in all shapes and sizes.  What shape do you think our time
  • capsule is?
  • What material is it made from?
  • How much do you think it weighs?
  • What are the dimensions?

Each community or homeroom can make predictions and share them with Ms. Wight.  We
will post the predictions in the school announcements.
The time capsule is being removed soon, so start those conversations and make your
predictions.  We will share the exact dimensions and details, once the time capsule is removed.

Stay tuned for more fun Time Capsule activities!
