PICTURES AND REPORTS

WALKING WEDNESDAY RESULTS
112 students and 14 adults signed in for the October 16th Walking Wednesday event.

It seemed like there were more people than 126 people involved, so if you are forgetting to sign in on Walking Wednesdays, we hope you are willing to sign-in in the future. The numbers of participants we can properly count help us earn funding from RiseVT and other granting organizations. They help us pay for stickers and pencils and equipment like the gaga pits and spinr merry-go-round. We love it when students and adults are willing to write down their names as participants. Thank you.

The graph below shows that Triumph was the team with the highest participation rate this week. There are some serious walkers in that community, so let's congratulate TRIUMPH.

GREEN MOUNTAIN CARE BOARD VISIT

Three members of the Green Mountain Care board and key members of the Northwestern Medical Center (RiseVT) visited St. Albans City School on Wednesday, October 16th. This board has oversight on health promotion resources within the state and they were interested in see what steps NMC, RiseVT and St. Albans City School has taken to influence the health of our students. They visited Ms. Bashaw's RiseVT gold level classroom where they heard a RiseVT poem created by Voyagers 4th graders and they took part in a Go-noodle exercise activity. They talked with two of our older students about the walk to school program at our school. Finally, they walked down to the cafeteria where they heard about our healthy meals and snacks. The Abbey SACS kitchen director, provided a small vegetable snack and some of the school-made salad bar dressings for everyone to try. These dressings are healthier than the ones we used to get in years past and they provided an example of a change made in our meal program. The board members and RiseVT staff were pleased to have visited St. Albans City School and to have seen what we offer our students and community.

SACS Time Capsule Activity:
We know a time capsule was sealed behind the 1968 stone block.  That still leaves many
unanswered questions.
  • Is there a tiny opening behind the stone or a huge opening?
  • Time capsules can come in all shapes and sizes.  What shape do you think our time
  • capsule is?
  • What material is it made from?
  • How much do you think it weighs?
  • What are the dimensions?

Each community or homeroom can make predictions and share them with Ms. Wight.  We
will post the predictions in the school announcements.
The time capsule is being removed soon, so start those conversations and make your
predictions.  We will share the exact dimensions and details, once the time capsule is removed.

Stay tuned for more fun Time Capsule activities!
