Announcements 4-10-2020

FRIDAY, APRIL 10th

LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Dear St. Albans City School Family,

We hope you are all doing well tonight. We know that while this continues to be a challenge our families are doing their very best. Tonight we want to use our Daily Announcements to share with you the changes that will happen next week around Attendance, Community Meetings and Learning Management Systems (LMS).

Attendance
First let’s talk about attendance. Starting April 13th we must report attendance as we do in any school year. To accomplish this, we are marking students present if any of the following occur: The teacher is able to connect with the child or family, the child does something in i-Ready or Lexia, the child attends a Community Meeting, or the child participates on the Learning Management System or other systems used by the teachers. We know that our families are doing their best, and we will count any participation as attending. Please keep those pictures coming of your ‘at home learning’ - we love seeing those, and they count too.

Community Meetings
Community Meetings are times when the teams may be meeting with larger groups of students. Sometimes it will be the whole community, some will be homerooms, but each time is dedicated to a team so that our families don't have to struggle with two students needing the technology and internet at the same time. We are using a password protected ZOOM account with many safety features turned on to protect our school family. The links for these meetings will only be available in emails or Learning Management Systems, never on an open webpage. That is part of the protection. Here is the current Community Meeting Schedule.

Learning Management System
A Learning Management System (LMS) is a tool teachers are using to organize on-line learning. In our prek-3rd grade that tool is SeeSaw. In our 4th grade-8th grade that tool is Google Classroom or Power School Learning. In many cases we are just learning to use an LMS, so we appreciate your patience while we learn together. We will be showing you how to access this tomorrow in a short video explaining how to get to our on-line learning system.

Thank you for all that you are doing. Our supportive school family and community is making this all possible.

We Are Raider Strong!

TRIUMPH STUDENT
We recently started talking about simple machines.  We made pulleys.

A UNIQUE BIRDFEEDER
This student made a homemade bird feeder out of toast, peanut butter, birdseed, and a piece of string. Since she hung it outside, she has had squirrel and bird visitors.

CONTENT WANTED
St. Albans City School families and staff members, if you have anything positive to share on the announcements that show what students and adults are doing to promote learning and a sense of community in this time of uncertainty, then please send it on to Mr. Craib at mcraib@maplerun.org. Please add a short descriptive note to go with your content. It would also be helpful if you wrote that you are providing consent to share your images, video clips, artwork, etc... Thank you.

SACS DIGITAL CITIZENS, ONLINE TIPS FOR FAMILIES
You can learn a lot about someone by looking at their digital footprint.  That is a record of the places they go online. In this activity, families share the clues and see what they learn about each example.  What do you think people would learn from your digital footprint? Digital footprints are important because they can be seen by not just friends but also by schools and employers.

Have fun investigating the digital footprint clues as a family:
