Announcements 5-4-2020

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR MONDAY, MAY 4th

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Dear St. Albans City School Families,

We are so thankful for your patience and support as we have transitioned to on-line learning.  This is not easy for any of us. We realize how much effort this requires of our families. We want to do what we can to support you and have you feel confident in supporting your children.  Every week we are meeting in many configurations to see what we can do to improve our work. We would like to ask you to give us some feedback so that we can continue to grow and learn in this new environment. This link (Click Here)  will take you to a short survey where you can tell us how things are going in your home, and how we might be able to better support your family.  The survey will be open until Friday May 8th.

Thank you for taking some time to give us feedback.

Joan and Stacie

INSPIRING OBSTACLE COURSE
This short obstacle course video is definitely worth checking out. It was made in a backyard by a Travelers student. The course is challenging and he completes in an impressive fashion. He would love to challenge other students to create obstacle courses as well. Feel free to submit your obstacle course video to Mr. Craib mcraib@maplerun.org.

SCIENTIFIC LEARNING BY AN INVESTIGATOR
Here are some pictures from an Investigator student. In one he is completing some shadow drawings, the next he engineered a foil boat. After making adjustments to his model and adding cross supports his boat was able to hold 178 coins before it sank! In the last picture, he and his sister are completing an experiment changing solids and liquids into gas.

LEARNING ABOUT DINOSAURS AND VOLCANOES

FUNNY FACES
Ms. Martinson created an on-line art experience for students to try. Many did. Here are photographs from one family showing the results of their work.

MESSAGES FOUND ON HARD'ACK/ALDIS HILL HIKE
The trails on Hard'Ack and Aldis Hill provide plenty of views of nature and recently some positive and inspirational messages have been left along the trails.  This is a great way to spread some positive messages and make our community great!  Love the art and the messages on these small stones.  Below are six stones found on a recent hike. Mr. Cioffi.

MAP MAKING
This picture is from one of the Smith families. The three St. Albans City School students in the family attended a 4-H map-making session (online, of course) and these are the end products.

PUPPET SHOW

The Unified Arts Team would like to do a SHOUT OUT to Lilah O. in Grade 3 She completed a whole line on this week's Unified Arts BINGO Board!  She learned how to play Rock Paper Scissors, made oobleck, listened to the maple sugaring story, made a butterfly, and did Pokémon yoga. HARVEST OF THE MONTH

May is mixed greens month. The salad greens commonly known as "spring mix" originated in France and are known in French as Mesclun. Mixed greens simply refers to a combination of the first tender young greens that appear in the garden in the spring. Popularized in French farmer's markets, where local growers would boast their unique springtime blends, mixed salad greens arrived to the US food scene in the 1980s. Varieties of greens that are grown in Vermont include arugula, spinach, endive, pea and sunflower shoots, dandelion greens, mustard greens, watercress, and various leafy lettuces.

CONTENT WANTED
St. Albans City School families and staff members, if you have anything positive to share on the announcements that show what students and adults are doing to promote learning and a sense of community in this time of uncertainty, then please send it on to Mr. Craib at mcraib@maplerun.org. Please add a short descriptive note to go with your content. It would also be helpful if you wrote that you are providing consent to share your images, video clips, artwork, etc... Thank you.
