8TH GRADE GRADUATION

Today, Friday, June 12th we will honor our 8th-grade class before they leave us to become the BFA Class of 2024. The ceremony will begin at 6:00 with each team presenting their PLP speeches.

THESE SPEECHES MAY GO SLIGHTLY LONGER THAN AN HOUR

The 8th-grade graduation ceremony that follows at 7:00 PM will wait until both 7/8 Learning communities have completed their PLPs before starting the ceremony. We don't anticipate much of a delay. We want you to know that the graduation ceremony is fairly brief.

Zoom links will be sent to parents and students for both components of the ceremony, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone for this special night.

June 9, 2020

Dear Families,

This certainly has been a school year to remember, and we wouldn’t have wanted to go through it with anyone but our Raider Strong families. It is hard to believe that we are at the end of the year. Although we may not be able to answer many questions about next year we do know that the safety of your child will be a priority and that relationships are so important when we are asking children to take the risks necessary to learn. We are being asked to design a system that provides in-person, remote and hybrid (mixed) plans, and that we must be ready to switch at any point based on COVID 19 data. Safety and relationships will be at the heart of what we design.

Monday, June 15, 2020 is Step Up Day. Students moving up will receive letters from their new communities this week. Teachers will be contacting their students about how they will meet virtually on Monday.

While many questions surround the changes we are going through, the one thing that we do know for sure is that we value the relationships we have with our families and we continue to be here to support you. We will mail you an opening letter to start next year when all details are finalized, and we will keep you updated throughout the summer on our Daily Announcements of any changes or decisions about next year. If you aren’t currently receiving Daily Announcements we encourage you to go to our website and sign up (https://www.maplerun.org/o/sacs). This is our main form of communication along with Facebook. When we have plans ready, we will offer another parent Zoom meeting to share plans and answer questions. We are here this summer if you need to reach out to us. We appreciate your patience and support, now more than ever, while we all figure out our “new normal”.

Stay Raider Strong and have a wonderful, safe summer,

Joan and Stacie

VOYAGERS 6TH GRADE GRADUATION VIDEO
This is the video of Monday's surprise celebration of the Voyagers 6th graders who will be graduating to 7th grade. Two students weren't able to be there, so we will try and film something with them in the coming days and update the video. For now, here is what we have.

GENEROUS WATERBOTTLE & COUPON DONATION TO SACS TEACHERS

Marilyn Billings, a local community member and parent of graduated City School daughters, donated Tupperware water bottles with flavor packets and discount coupons for all staff. We are grateful!

THERE WAS AN ERROR IN POSTING THE ANNOUNCEMENTS TO EMAIL ON THURSDAY. Therefore, the pictures below are repeated so that everyone can have a chance to see them.

6TH GRADE BIKE TRIP

In normal times, the school would organize a 6th-grade bike trip along the rail trail in May or June. Not this year.  A group of 6th-grade girls did not want to miss out on the experience and with the help of parent and leader, Stephen Bernard, held their own "6th-grade bike trip." Here are the pictures from that event.

ROCKET
Here is a video of a student with a rocket he created from a STEAM lesson on the Unified Arts bingo board.

6TH GRADE GRADUATIONS
It has been fun watching teachers from various 4-6th grade learning communities launching out to visit the homes of 6th graders from City School to celebrate their three years of time with those sets of teachers. In addition, these 4-6 teachers wanted to wish the students well in their move up to 7th and 8th grade. Here are a few pictures submitted by parents of what that looked like.

HARRY POTTER FAN
This 5th Grade Incredibles student painted the selection hat. Nice job.

Congratulations to Mrs. Scott who will be retiring after this year! Mr. Karp and Miss Soucy are both moving on to new schools after this year. They would love to see everyone before they leave!

What: Summer Send-Off

Where: SACS
When: Thursday, June 11th, 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Why: To say goodbye to our school family for the summer!

TEAMS USA AND RENAISSANCE BOOK RETURN

REQUEST

If you borrowed a book from the 7/8 teams (Touching Spirit Bear or another title), we are hoping to retrieve them so they are available for next year's readers. If you are able to drop them by the school, we encourage you to do so. Thank you, and keep reading!

RETURNING LIBRARY BOOKS

Since the in-school part of the year ended somewhat abruptly, we realize that students may still have library materials that they no longer need or have finished reading. If you wish to return them, we urge you to drop them by the school.
