Community Fancy Dance Bus Parade

        June 5th

        Starting at 10:00

Dear St. Albans City School Community,

We would like to invite you to our Fancy Dance - modified to adhere to COVID 19 restrictions and to include the entire school family. We will be parading through the City on June 5th starting at 10:00 am. We will make 25 stops (see the maps to find the stop near you). Each stop will only be a few minutes - long enough for a dance, a quick wave to each other, a chance to say hello, and a chance to pass out Chocolate Covered Strawberries.

We need your help to make this a safe and fun event for all. While the Fancy Dance is usually for 1st to 3rd grade, this year it is a Prek-8th grade event. School staff will be modeling social distancing in buses. We will have our masks on, and many of us will be dressed up or in costumes - and others will be dressed casually. Dress in a way that feels best for you. To show our Raider Strong Spirit, we ask that you wear facemasks too.

When we stop we will exit the buses and remain in the road. We ask that you remain on your property or the sidewalk. When the music starts, we will have a short block dance party, while our strawberry runners leave strawberries for each family involved. When the music stops we will load back on to the buses and go to the next stop. We will wave goodbye from the buses as we leave.

While our dance party will be short, we feel that getting to see each other before the year ends is just so important. We hope that all of our families will be able to join.

We are so excited to see you all -

We are Raider Strong

CONTENT FROM FAMILIES AND FROM SCHOOL

WHAT WAS HAPPENING AT THE SCHOOL IN JUNE 2013?

We started taking lots of pictures of school activities back in 2013. Here are three items that were important from that June seven years ago.

FARM TO SCHOOL

We kicked off our Farm to School program by having all learning communities plant gardens in the cement garden beds surrounding the school. Students cleaned out the weeds, planted the beds and removed weeds from the cracked cement walkways around the school. When they returned in the Fall, students prepared foods and meals to eat with the "homegrown produce".

HARVEST OF THE MONTH

June | Dairy

Vermonters are crazy about their dairy - we have 677 dairy farms operating in the state currently and we produce around 2.6 billion pounds of milk per year. In fact, the state is more dependent on a single commodity than any other state!  Whether it's yogurt, award-winning cheeses, fluid milk, or cheese curds, Vermonters know good dairy & the industry is an integral part of the state's working landscape. Next time you are out driving around, take note of the happy cows grazing in their pastures and give them a wave to celebrate this month's harvest!

PRESENTATION BY PSYCHOLOGIST, JOELLE VAN LENT, FOR FAMILIES

Joelle's presentation was shared with families via a Zoom meeting on Thursday evening, May 28th. For those who missed the presentation, it was recorded. Click on the link below to hear and watch what Joelle had to share. Thank you to everyone for your interest.

LETTER ABOUT GRADUATION PLANS FOR 8TH GRADERS updated 5-29-2020

MESSAGE FROM THE LIBRARY

Since the in-school part of the year ended somewhat abruptly, we realize that students may still have library materials that they no longer need or have finished reading. If you wish to return them, we urge you to drop them by the school.

If your student is ready to check out other books, the online catalog can be accessed here (https://sacslibrary.follettdestiny.com/common/welcome.jsp?context=saas20_4448088) or on the City School webpage under Family Resources. If you prefer, I am happy to help find resources and/or give recommendations of enjoyable literature. I’ve had the privilege to get to know most of our students, and so may be able to find some books particularly tailored to their taste. At any rate, feel free to contact me anytime by email at swade@maplerun.org and we will prepare your order for pickup!
