PICTURES SATEC CROSS-COUNTRY RACE On Monday afternoon, October 26th, our school’s runners met for a cross country race over the demanding Town School course. Temperatures were in the low 40s with a steady drizzle in the late afternoon. Even so, spirits were high. There have been so few opportunities to compete this cross country season that the athletes were eager to run, regardless of conditions. Most runners wore some kind of costume because of the race’s proximity to Halloween. Note: The athletes are allowed to take off masks during the race, but must have masks on before and after running. A good time was had by all competitors. Link to Many Pictures of all the athletes in the boys and girls races. LITERATURE ANALYSIS ON TEAM USA - VAUGHN Ms. Vaughn had her students learn how to thoughtfully read a novel written about the experience of being Jewish in Germany in the late 1930’s. She and her students talked about settings and how readers can look up locations and images on the internet to gain a deeper sense of where the story took place. They also talked about smaller stories within the book how they might weave together for a larger overall story. And word choices were covered as well because they can make mental images come to life and make a huge difference in the quality of writing. The plan was for students to take the reading home for further analysis and understanding during remote learning. The movement states took place outdoors in blustery 30 degree temperatures. When fifteen seconds of pulse rate data in each condition was gathered, students and their teachers returned to the classroom to graph their findings. The goal was see how changing the activity a person engages in affects heart rate. This was a good project for having student begin to understand heart function while using some fundamental math and graphing techniques. Link to 26 Pictures |
