MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER (SRO)

"Hello! Just a reminder to everyone that student drop-off in the morning begins at 7:40, and pick-up begins at 2:40 in the afternoon. If you are dropping off or picking up at the bus loop, please try to arrive as close to these times as possible. You may not enter the bus loop if there are any buses still in the loop.

In the interest of safety, mitigating traffic buildup, and city ordinances, if you arrive early please do not park along Calvary Street. Instead, please park along Finn Avenue, and wait until all of the buses have passed the Finn Avenue/Calvary Street intersection before re-entering Calvary Street. This prevents traffic from becoming backed up onto North Elm Street, makes it easier for buses to arrive and depart from the school, and creates a safer environment for walkers.

Your cooperation is appreciated! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

-Officer Kaylie Cadorette"

SNOW TUBES

The tubes will be out and your teachers will know if your classroom group can use the sledding hill.

Guidelines for use:

  • Never let the bottoms of the snow tubes drag on the sidewalks or surfaces which might scratch them

  • Only one person may use each tube at a time

  • Climb up the sledding hill on the sides of the hill and behind the barriers of straw bales. There will likely be many snow tubes in use and it will not be safe to walk up the middle of the hill.

  • Leave the tubes stacked ON THE SNOW at the top of the hill when your class is done

PICTURES AND NEWS

SIGN LANGUAGE MUSIC VIDEO - CAMERON MUSCENTE
This “Seven Words” video (below) was created in the Imagination, Investigators, Travelers and Explorers learning communities to demonstrate the work the students have put in to learn sign language and to use their new skills in a performance setting. Ms. Cameron-Muscente’s students worked on this video towards the end of November and into December. Many of the students chose pictures to color to help add to the video. The students were very interested and engaged in the sign language video project. They also enjoyed learning how to spell their names using the ASL alphabet, which Ms. Cameron-Muscente taught first.

The reason these students are being taught sign language in Ms. Cameron-Muscente’s music classes is that they are not able to sing right now due to Covid. So, Ms. Cameron-Muscente thought learning sign-languages for songs, like Seven Words, would be a great way to still keep learning new songs. The students also learned to sign to Three Little Birds ( Bob Marley) and What a Wonderful World ( Louis Armstrong) and Happy Birthday. Link to Seven Words video 4 minutes long

Consider watching a small portion of the video just to see what it is like.

TRAVELERS - LEWIS & MINCHIN

On December 22nd, 2020, not long before the winter holiday, the Travelers in Mr. Lewis’ classroom were guided through an experience of making “volcanos” by Ms. Minchin. They had studied volcanos previously, and were thrilled to have the chance to make their own mini-volcanos. Baking soda, vinegar, food coloring and dish soap were combined to produce a harmless chemical reaction that resulted in a rapid overflow of “lava” from plastic cups. Each child had a chance to make a volcano and they were encouraged to enjoy a moment of playing in the mess that resulted.  Link to 37 pictures
