SACS FIRST ANNUAL

SNOWBOT BUILDING EVENT 2021

Show your school spirit and build a snowbot with your team!

SnowBot Expectations

  • Learning communities, you can go out and pick any spot in the fields that you would like (Stay clear of the base of the tubing hill). Once you have chosen an area for your team, please mark it with the stake with your team name on it. Keep the kids building within your class/team “plot” in the field. You can build as many snowbots or decorations as your class would like within that area.

  • You can use ONLY natural decorations that are found in nature.

    • Outside natural materials can be collected during recess times with teachers permission.

  • Get creative and use containers, bins, or cups to make shapes on your SnowBot. The Makerspace will provide some to share, but feel free to bring your own unique containers!

How can your SnowBot be unique?!

***Please send pictures of your time creating to Mitch***

All students must be properly masked.

MESSAGE FROM THE TECH TEAM TO STUDENTS AND FAMILIES

https://www.wevideo.com/view/2036281202

Hello Students and the Adults that support them

A lot of time is spent each week getting chromebooks and resources for chromebooks prepared for you.  How have things been going?  We want to make sure you are using your chromebooks intentionally and in accordance with our Acceptable Use Agreement which states you will:

"Use technology in support of education and research and in support of the educational goals and objectives of St. Albans City School."

In other words, we ask you to use your chromebook for your schoolwork.  At the same time, we also want to support your own learning and creativity.  To do this, the Tech Team has generated a list of SACS-approved websites to utilize during your free time; with the permission of your parent/guardian while at home, and teacher when at school.

Here is a list of Tech Team Approved Websites:

Scratch - learn to program

Google Earth

Tinkercad (email makerspace@maplerun.org for an account) - 3D modeling

Khan Academy

Code.org - more activities to learn programming

Sketchup - also a 3D modeling software.  Can be accessed through your google apps.

https://thekidshouldseethis.com/ - curated videos

https://wonderopolis.org/  -  awesome answer to any question you can think of

Check in with your teachers for your community’s specific list of approved websites.

Thanks,

The SACS Tech Team

PICTURES

SNOWSTORM LEFTOVERS

On Wednesday, facilities staff member, Frank Pelkey, looked up at the roof and noticed large overhanging masses of windblown snow ready to drop on unsuspecting walkers below. Facilities manager, Robin Boudreau and a lead custodian, Richard Barratt climbed up onto the roof and knocked those cornices off. This very short video clip shows what they were dealing with.  Link to 20-second long Video.

EXPLORERS 1st GRADE - DEDIOS

Students practiced their reading and writing skills in Ms. Dedios’ classroom on Monday 2-1-2021. Link to 29 Pictures

8TH GRADER BABY PICTURES WANTED

The yearbook committee would like 8th graders to submit baby pictures for the yearbook. It is best if you submit digital copies of your pictures to Mr. Craib at mcraib@maplerun.org. If you need to bring in the original image for scanning, you can give it to your teacher who will pass it on to Mr. Craib. The picture will be scanned as soon as it is received and immediately returned safely to the student.
