SIGN UP FOR FAMILY SNOW TUBE USE AT SCHOOL OVER MID-WINTER BREAK

St. Albans City School would like to make limited snow-tube-use here at school available to families over the break. Families can contact Mr. Craib (at mcraib@maplerun.org) on a first-come, first-serve basis to schedule one ½-hour time slot on one day over the break for snow tube use. Each family that signs up can use half of the sledding hill and can have access to 5 snow tubes. The rules for snow-tube use are as follows.

  1. Arrive on time and depart promptly for your scheduled time-slot.

  2. Each slot is for a single-family household only, we cannot have mixed households.

  3. There must be at least one adult who is supervising (and hopefully sledding too).

  4. Every family member must use a mask while on the sledding hill and while using the snow tubes. If your hands are bare, sanitizing before and after snow tube use is required.

  5. Only one family member can ride on a tube at a time.

  6. Walk up the hill behind the straw bale barriers to prevent being hit by people tubing down the hill.

  7. Leave the tubes at the top of the hill before departing.

  8. We cannot allow any access to the building. There are no bathroom facilities available.

  9. Consider sharing pictures of your family sledding with Mr. Craib for the daily announcements. mcraib@maplerun.org

RENAISSANCE INSULATION SCIENCE PROJECT - LOUCY

Thursday, 2-18-2021, was the chance for Renaissance students in the Thu/Fri group to try their hands at creating packaging that would minimize heat loss in winter conditions. Using a bag of a variety of insulating materials, plus cardboard, tape, glue, and odd items won in raffles, the students each made the best box or package to insulate a small plastic cup of warm water from the very cold temperatures outdoors. They measured the temperature of the hot tap water in their cup prior to insulation and then after being placed in their container and outdoors for 15 minutes. The smaller the drop in water temperature over that time, the better. Images of their designs and the data collected were entered into digital worksheets. Students were given an opportunity to improve their designs and try again.

8TH GRADER BABY PICTURES WANTED

We now have 25 out of 70 students who have submitted baby pictures. We are hoping for more since it is wonderful to see how students have grown as the years have passed by.

It is best if you submit digital copies of your pictures to Mr. Craib at mcraib@maplerun.org. If you need to bring in the original image for scanning, you can give it to your teacher who will pass it on to Mr. Craib. The picture will be scanned as soon as it is received and immediately returned safely to the student.
