PICTURES TRIUMPH POWER PROJECT - ALBRECHT Ms. Albrecht asked her students to develop presentations about power (who has it and why). The students learned how power itself is not good or evil, but rather a means to gain autonomy, the ability to persuade others, and a vehicle which allows a group to affect change. Their varied projects had them pondering the concept of power deeply. Most chose to showcase some aspect of power from the historical novel they had read together (Eliza's Freedom Road: An Underground Railroad Diary). Their presentation options were numerous and allowed for students’ interests and talents to shine. Illustrations, posters, comic books, videos, scripts for scenes, slideshows, songs/poems/word art, props, models, dioramas, Minecraft tours, games, and more were possible. The project took each student days to complete and helped make the novel’s story more significant and meaningful in all their minds. Link to 20 Pictures. (Left) This student made a cardboard model of a steam-powered paddle-driven riverboat discussed in the story. Eliza gained power by escaping enslavement through her travel on a riverboat. The student below drew a multi-paged comic book detailing moments of power in Eliza’s life.  INCREDIBLES ART - CHEROUNY It was Ms. Knott’s 4th graders’ turn to try their hands at using drawing techniques to create “3D images”. Ms. Cherouny, their art teacher, showed them how you can trick the viewer’s mind into seeing a 3D image while in actuality it remains a 2D image. 3-30-2021. Link to 17 Pictures. TRIUMPH TRIPLETS Team triumph teachers matched last week when it was sunny and 70 degrees out.

SPRING SPORTS MEETING WITH FAMILIES ON ZOOM Wednesday, April 7th. 5:00 PM. An explanation of how sports will be organized this Spring will be provided along with clarification of expectations for practices and events for both students and their families.   Link to Zoom Meeting

OUTDOOR CO-ED VOLLEYBALL We are going to offer outdoor volleyball as a co-ed sport for 5th-8th graders this Spring. please email Ms. Stephanie Beck-Bryant at sbeck@maplerun.org if you are interested in participating. BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL We are starting to get a count of students interested in playing baseball and softball this season. Both sports will be offered to 5th-8th graders after the April break. VERMONT GOLDEN DOME BOOK AWARD - vote for your favorite books Have you wondered what happened to the DCF Books this year?!  Well, look no further!  The Vermont Golden Dome Book Award* (formerly the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Book Award) was created to honor excellence in children's literature. Each year since 1957, Vermont students in grades four through eight have selected their favorite book from a list of nominees. It is recommended that students read at least five of the year's nominated titles before voting.  Our SACS library has multiple copies of most of the books on this year’s list, so be sure to check them out today!  Voting takes place this spring, beginning April 30th and ending May 28th. LAST CALL FOR 8TH GRADER BABY PICTURES The yearbook committee is nearly finished organizing the baby picture section of the yearbook. For the 2/3rds of the 8th graders who have not yet submitted a picture, this week is your final opportunity to do so. It is best if you submit digital copies of your pictures to Mr. Craib at mcraib@maplerun.org. If you need to bring in the original image for scanning, you can give it to your teacher who will pass it on to Mr. Craib. The picture will be scanned as soon as it is received and immediately returned safely to the student.
