LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Dear St. Albans City School Families,

We want to first thank you for your support and understanding throughout this year. We are coming into the final few weeks, and we have some news to share with you.

Your children have been amazing this year. They have worked with us to not only make the COVID changes we had to implement work, but also give us feedback on which of these changes they would like to see remain as we go beyond COVID.

Over the next few weeks we will hold some important and fun end of the year events. Because of COVID regulations, we have to modify and limit them. We are going to celebrate each of our grades that are moving on to a new learning community or on to High School. Our celebrations will follow all guidance for COVID so that we continue mitigating risks.

Prior to the final 8th grade celebration, our 8th grade will be having a trip with all of their teachers, planned as a beach day. Our 8th grade graduation celebration will be June 9th from 6:00-7:00 in the front of the school. Students will be under a tent and families will be in the parking lot with lawn chairs. We will have more details out about how that will work. Earlier that day, Wednesday June 9, we will have rehearsal from 10:00-noon with a BBQ lunch and yearbook signing.  We are looking forward to having our 8th grade together to celebrate the end of their school career at St. Albans City School. Tuesday, June 8th, we will have a Virtual PLP night where our 8th grade students will share their PLP speeches. More details will be provided by the 7-8 teams.

June 3 -  8th Grade Trip USA

June 7 -  8th Grade Trip Ren

Our 7th grade will get the opportunity to go on the bike trip that they missed at the end of their 6th grade year. This year it will look a little different. They will be going with all of the teachers on their team, and only the students in 7th grade on their team.  Each team will go on a separate day.

June 10 - Ren 7th grade Bike Trip

June 11 - USA 7th grade Bike Trip

Our 6th grade will also be going on the bike trip this year.  As with 7th grade, they will be going with the teachers on their teams on different days.

June 3 - Triumph 6th grade Bike Trip

June 4 - Voyagers 6th grade Bike Trip

June 7 - Incredibles 6th grade Bike Trip

June 8 - Discovery 6th grade Bike Trip

Our 3rd grade will be moving to a new 4-6 team next year, so they will have a special day with their teachers. They will go to Hard’ack in the morning then hike back to the pool for lunch and a pool party.

June 7 -   Travelers 3rd grade Trip

June 8 -   Explorers 3rd grade Trip

June 10 - Imagination 3rd grade Trip

June 11 - Investigators 3rd grade Trip

Our Kindergarten will be going to Cioffi park for field days and special treats. Today they are working on a special video to celebrate “Riding into First Grade”.

        June 7-    Navigators Field Days

June 8 -   Dreamers Field Days

June 11 - Adventurers Field Days

We have focused our energy on providing a closing experience for each of our students that are moving to a different team next year.  Individual teams will create other special moments. These are the school-wide moments that we wanted to make you aware are being planned.

June 14th is the last full day of school. On the evening of the 14th we will hold an outdoor Open House from 5:00-6:00 for students and families that are stepping up or moving back from Virtual Academy. We thought it would be helpful for families to meet their team before the summer. Then on Tuesday, June 15th, we will have a half-day Step Up Day for students that are stepping up to a new Learning Community (into grades K, 1, 4, 7) or returning from Virtual Academy. Start time will be as usual, and buses will leave school at 10:15 to bring students home and pick ups will be from 10:20-10:30.

Next week we will share information about the Summer Camp opportunities we are offering. We will be running 3 different sets of Camps spanning all age levels beginning July 6th and going to August 12th - each runs 2 weeks. The camps will run Monday- Thursday from 8:00-12:00. We will offer bussing, breakfast and lunch. Our hope is that every child can find a camp that will give them a special summer experience.

We hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather - our school has really taken advantage of being outdoors this week.

VOYAGERS TRAIL WORK

Team Voyagers spent many hours on Friday, May 21st hauling wood chips to lay down on the wetland and woodland trails. More than six yards of wood chips were kindly donated to the school and a lot of hauling and carrying was required to get them where they needed to go. The Voyagers have focused on the wetlands for years now through waves of students and some teacher changes too. However, throughout it all, Ms. Bashaw has guided the work and learning processes in that wild land. The wetlands and trails are great venues for learning at our school.  Link to Pictures.

ADVENTURERS KINDERGARTEN - FARRELL

This is a picture of Ms. Farrell’s students showing the letters they wrote to the Governor, School Board and St. Albans City School Administrators asking for additions to the playground. They want to make it possible for their wheelchair-using classmate to enjoy swings and slides just as they do. They demonstrated empathy and excellent writing skills for such young students. 5-21-2021

OPEN DOORS - DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS

Ms. Vaillancourt’s group of after-school students enjoyed playing dungeons and dragons outdoors near the cafeteria. 5-18-2021
