AIR HANDLING

Some families have asked if St. Albans City School has an air handling system for our school that is effective during covid. The answer is yes, as our building manager explains in the 1-min video we assembled about the concern prior to school last year. In summary, we are fortunate to have a modern air handling system and it has been turned on high to change out the air in classrooms faster than ever before.  Link to 1-minute video.

OPEN HOUSE

There was a huge turnout for the outdoor open house on Tuesday evening, August 24th, 5:00-6:00 PM. The resource fair under the large tent was particularly busy as families straightened out their records with the registrar, learned about busing routes, signed their students up for sports, band, and chorus, picked up goody bags from the STEAM teachers, collected cloth masks, and talked to the nurses. Around the building, families sorted out which door to drop off students and learned who would be teaching their kids. The weather was perfect for the occasion. Thank you to everyone who attended and those who organized the evening. Link to 14 Pictures.

WALKING TO SCHOOL

So many students walked to school on the first day of this new school year. It was truly impressive. The picture below is of Mr. Weinsten, a parent who leads a pack of kids in from his neighborhood every day, letting some young walkers pet his dog. Walking is a great way to get some exercise and be ready for the school day.

UNIFIED ARTS - STEAM - DEDIOS, RANKIN

Ms. Rankin has a wonderful ability to connect with young kids as she pushes into classrooms with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) lessons. On this occasion, she came into Ms. Dedios’s classroom dressed as a superhero. She then gave each student a small bag of supplies to create their own model of a superhero. After her initial introduction, Superhero Darcie Rankin stepped outside of the classroom to regain her normal appearance before quickly stepping back in to handle questions and instruction.

IMAGINATION 1ST GRADE - BACHAND

Ms. Bachand’s class was finishing an activity just before engaging in a 40-minute Physical Education lesson.

ADVENTURERS - FARRELL

Ms. Farrell’s kindergarteners were shifting from one activity to another when these photos were taken. 8-25-2021.

DREAMERS KINDERGARTEN - DUPONT

It was early on the first day of school when Ms. Dupont organized students on the classroom rug. They learned where to assemble quickly for instruction in the months ahead. 8-25-2021

NAVIGATORS KINDERGARTEN - LAWYER

Kindergarten is a time for play as well as to begin the early stages of academic instruction. It was playtime in Ms. Lawyer’s classroom at the time of photo documentation. 8-25-2021.

TEAM USA - KITTELL, VAUGHN, ROULEAU

Team USA has a large group divided into four pods. Three of these are shown in the following pictures. They were all learning about the plans for how their days would be structured moving forward. 8-25-2021

ABBEY FOOD SERVICE

The Abbey has been busy assembling meals for the classrooms. 8-25-2021.

VOYAGERS - CHISHOLM

Ms. Chisholm’s classroom. 8-25-2021

OUTDOOR TIME MIDDAY

Many students were outside enjoying the stellar (if warm) weather. A number of communities had already taken students out in the morning for ice-breaking activities on this first day of school. At midday, people were out again for physical activity and a chance to make friendships with their newly formed learning community groups.
