LOCKDOWN/INTRUDER DRILL

On Tuesday morning (9-14-2021) St. Albans City School held a drill to go over lockdown and violent intruder procedures. PICTURES

IMAGINATION 1ST GRADE - BACHAND

Students were tasked with writing about their favorite dessert. They also had to draw the dessert and color it in with crayons. Link to 33 Pictures.

TRIUMPH 5TH GRADE - MAILLET & MCMAHON

Ms. McMahon and Ms. Maillet paired together to increase the 5th graders’ knowledge of brain states and how they impact learning. Students made paper batteries showing the different brain states. They used paper clips on the battery to indicate where their brain states were or where they thought other people’s brain states were depending upon behaviors. These batteries will be kept in their supply boxes and used to help communicate how students are doing when teachers inquire. This may sound like a dry class but it was clearly fun and helpful. The students did a great job with it. 9-14-2021. Link to 39 Pictures.

DREAMERS KINDERGARTEN - DUPONT

Ms. Dupont and Ms. Moss shepherded their students out to the school orchard for some apple picking. The kids were very excited to pick apples. Ms. Moss taught them how to pick them in a way that prevents tree damage and results in better apple production in the following years. The students placed the apples in a big paper bag and returned to their classroom to use the apples in various projects. 9-14-2021.  Link to 6 Pictures of these students. Link to a web page with the history of our orchard.

EXPLORERS 3RD GRADE - JARVIS

This group played two games while pictures were being taken. In the first, two groups played rapid games on four-square courts. There were four spots and five students who had to shift to a corner on command. If a student missed getting a corner they had to step out briefly and let another student take a turn. The game require running and quick thinking. The second game had students hopping from opposite corners of a gym towards one another. When they met, they had to perform a rock, paper, scissors contest to determine who could make forward progress and who had to return to the start to await another turn. The hopping work was vigorous.  Link to 12 Pictures.

EXPLORERS 2ND GRADE - JARVIS

Ms. Wight set up five stations of obstacle courses or activities for the 2nd graders to do in the little gym. They rotated between the stations to keep from getting bored or excessively tired. 9-14-2021
