ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 20th
COVID Update September 17, 2021 Dear St. Albans City School Families, Today we received information indicating that a member of our school community has tested positive for COVID 19. As part of our Health and Safety measures, we are having all unvaccinated students who may have been in close contact with this individual remain home until all quarantining requirements have been met. We have communicated with the affected students/staff via email or phone about their quarantine requirements. If you have not been contacted you or your children are not a close contact and you do not need to quarantine at this time.
We encourage all staff, students, and families to follow all the necessary COVID guidelines (wearing masks, staying home when sick, physical distancing, and handwashing) and communicate with one of our nurses if you or your children might have symptoms or have tested positive with COVID-19.
We appreciate everyone’s understanding and support. Joan and Stacie |

PICTURES VOYAGERS SCIENCE - BASHAW Students had learned about animal blubber in previous lessons. On Friday they got and direct experience of how blubber works. Students were asked to immerse their bare hands in 34 deg. F water for up to a minute. The goal was to pull their hands out of the water when the temperature became uncomfortable. Students were able to keep their hands in the water for 2-60 seconds. They recorded their perceptions of the experience on a data sheet. Next Ms. Bashaw had students place a glove on the opposite hand to the one that had been immersed in the ice water. She then placed a gallon ziplock baggie filled with Crisco (blubber) partially into the water. Students then sunk their gloved hand into the Crisco to see if the fat had any impact on the perception of cold from the ice water. The consistent response by the students was that they could not feel the cold when their hands were surrounded by fat. In other words, the “blubber” insulated them from the cold. Link to 41 Pictures. HOPE STEPPING STOOL PROJECT - HOBEN Students from Kaleidoscope worked with Mr. Hoben to build a step for the Navigators PreK/K classroom students.
