PICTURES AND REPORTS

WALKING WEDNESDAY RESULTS

It was a really nice morning for walking to school on October 6th. 135 people checked in at the tent for stickers and a plastic foot tag and that is a reasonably good number of participants. However, we suspect that some students and adults did not check-in. We understand that for some walkers/bikers stickers and tags are uninteresting.  Still, we really want an accurate count of how many hardy people walk and bike to school on Walking Wednesdays. We hope that in the future all Walking Wednesday walkers and bikers will stop by the table near the front of the school for check-in. We don't take names. We just keep a tally of walkers and bikers. Parents/Adult family members who are willing to volunteer with the Walking School Bus program should contact Mr. Mitch Craib at email mcraib@maplerun.org.

FAIRFAX COSTUME CROSS COUNTRY RACE

Fairfax middle and high schools organize a massive costumed race extravaganza each fall. They did so again this year on Tuesday, October 5th.  All the middle schoolers ran at one time over an extremely hilly course. A medium-sized group of our runners was able to attend and Ms. Albrecht kindly took pictures of them running which are shared here. There are a few pictures of the costume parade held before the races. The high schoolers have a very competitive relay race and take costuming up in a big way. It can be fun to watch their event in addition to middle school event.  Link to 20 Pictures.

YOUTH RISK BEHAVIOR SURVEY (YRBS) Grades 6-8

Dear Caregivers:

Our school is taking part in the 2021 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). This was developed in 1991 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is sponsored by the Vermont Department of Health and Agency of Education. The YRBS gathers information about health risk behaviors of 6th through 12th-grade students. Schools, communities, and state agencies will use the results of the survey to evaluate programs, plan new programs, and secure future funding. We will administer the survey to our 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students on October 13, 2021, and October 14, 2021. If you would like to learn more about the survey or see a copy it is available to view here. If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, please complete the opt-out form and return it to Kristen Hersey in the School Counselor’s Office. Copies of the opt-out form were mailed home and are also available to download HERE. Forms must be returned by October 12, 2021.
