BAND AND STRINGS CONCERT

After a long in-person concert absence, the various bands and orchestras were able to put on a well attended concert in the large gym. The one-hour event was incredible with fine performances by all the age groups. The ending performances by the 7th and 8th grade jazz and concert bands showed how well hard work and talent can advance students’ ability to play in a relatively short period of time. It was extremely hard to teach music during the pandemic and only this year with everyone at school have students had consistent opportunities to play with each other under the guidance of highly motivated teachers. Congratulations everyone on a beautiful show. Thank you to the families that are supporting the students in their musical journeys.

H.O.P.E. (Hands on Practical Ed.) END OF SUGARING SEASON BREAKFAST
The students who did much of the work collecting sap for our maple sugaring program were invited to enjoy a breakfast of french toast, sausage and fresh eggs. The sausage was made the day previously by a few students and the H.O.P.E. instructors. The eggs came from Mr. Deslauriers chickens. The syrup came from the City School maple trees.  Link to Pictures

BOOKS TO EXPLORE IN OUR SCHOOL LIBRARY

Neurodiversity Book Highlights

What is neurodiversity? Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one "right" way of thinking, learning, and behaving, and differences are not viewed as deficits.” (Baumer, 2021)

Each of the carefully selected titles in this month’s library highlights focus on characters who have neurological variances and differences such as autism, dyslexia, and ADHD. And did you know April is Autism Acceptance Month?  Use these titles to explore themes around neurodiversity with students and to cultivate meaningful classroom discussions.

This collection can be found linked through our library webpage and please reach out to Mrs. Levine at  alevine@maplerun.org if you have any questions on how to access these titles!

The main character has feelings so big that they glow from his cheeks, spill out of his eyes, and jump up and down on his chest. When he hears a joke, he bursts with joy. When a loud truck drives by, he cries. When his loved ones are having a hard day, he feels their emotions as if they were his own.

Beautifully illustrated and written in rhyming verse, children and adults explore the whole spectrum of feelings and readers navigate the emotional challenges they face throughout the day.

My Awesome Autism is a book designed to help children learn about their autism diagnosis and diversity.  It helps children to understand that they are truly wonderful as they are, and do not need to conform or adapt to understand things that do not suit their needs. It helps to open up the subject in a gentle and nurturing way.
