PICTURES VOYAGERS NEST-MAKING PROJECT - BASHAW. 4-6-2022 This Wednesday Voyager challenge was to make a nest to hold our three magic eggs. Nests had to be made using only materials we found outside- no garbage. The results were impressive. Link to 16 Pictures. TEAM USA - ARGUMENT EXERCISE IN LANGUAGE ARTS CLASSES - VAUGHN Students in all four pods of Team USA formed into small groups where each person took turns arguing for or against the validity of a debate statement. Here is an example of a debate topic. “Art and Music are just as important as other types of classes”. The person starting would state why they believed or disagreed with the statement. The next person in line would have have to say they totally disagreed with that argument and why. The next person in line would have to come up with arguments that totally disagreed with the previous person’s views and on and on. About every five minutes the debate statement was changed to provide students with a fresh topic to hash over. Link to 19 Pictures. TOUR OF MRUSD SCHOOLS BY SECRETARY OF EDUCATION, DAN FRENCH MRUSD Superintendent, Bill Kimball, showed Secretary French around the four schools in our district on Wednesday, April 6th. Mr. French talked with educators and students throughout the supervisory union over the course of the visit. At St. Albans City School, he got involved in the Makerspace Bits and Bytes Cafe that was being attended by 1st-grade travelers students. He also stopped by the chicken coop and walked through the wetlands. At every point of his tour, students did a great job explaining the projects they were associated with. Secretary French visited classrooms at St. Albans Town Education Center and talked to middle school students and staff. He next traveled to BFA and the Tech Center where he talked to teachers in the health/medical field, the building trades areas, and the early education training program. That facility visit culminated with a very fancy meal prepared in the tech center restaurant and training kitchen. Finally, secretary French went to the Fairfield Center School where he saw maple syrup being produced in their sugar shack, desserts being prepared in “cooking class” and the newly constructed addition to the school facilities. He was impressed by the array of instruction and resources being offered to students in our district. Link to 75 photos. |

BOOKS TO EXPLORE IN OUR SCHOOL LIBRARY A shift in perspective can change everything. This brilliant new novel celebrates kids who see the world a little differently. April is looking for an escape from the sixth-grade lunch hour, which has become a social-scene nightmare, so she signs up to be a "buddy bench monitor" for the fourth graders' recess. Joey Byrd is a boy on the fringes, who wanders the playground alone, dragging his foot through the dirt. But over time, April realizes that Joey isn't just making random circles. When you look at his designs from above, a story emerges... Joey's "bird's eye" drawings reveal what he observes and thinks about every day. Told in alternating viewpoints--April's in text and Joey's mostly in art--the story gives the "whole picture" of what happens as these two outsiders find their rightful places.
