DISCOVERY FUN AFTERNOON CHALLENGE

The whole team took a break from academic work to play Minute to Win It games. Classroom groups rotated through three different stations. Link to 12 Pictures.

  1. Pairs of students had to keep four balloons up in the air (each student managed 2 balloons). The team that managed to keep the balloons airborne for the longest time in a timed minute were the winners.

  2. Selected team members took on the challenge of building the tallest tower of cubes that could stand on its own.

  3. Students took turns tossing pencils (erasure down first) onto a table top in an attempt to bounce them into a plastic cup. The student/team with the most pencils in the cup after a minute was the winner.

TRIUMPH 5TH GRADE - DRAPER

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH - BOOKS TO CONSIDER IN THE LIBRARY

Did you know it is National Hispanic Heritage Month? It is celebrated in the U.S. from September 15 to October 15 and recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements in the United States. Checkout these books in our library today!

Carlitos lives in a happy home with his mother, his abuela, and Coco the cat. Life in his hometown is cozy as can be, but the call of the capital city pulls Carlitos across the bay in search of his father. Jolly piragüeros, mischievous cats, and costumed musicians color this tale of love, family, and the true meaning of home.

When Areli was just a baby, her mama and papa moved from Mexico to New York with her brother, Alex, to make a better life for the family--and when she was in kindergarten, they sent for her, too.

Everything in New York was different. Gone were the Saturdays at Abuela’s house, filled with cousins and sunshine. Instead, things were busy and fast and noisy. Areli’s limited English came out wrong, and schoolmates accused her of being illegal. But with time, America became her home. And she saw it as a land of opportunity, where millions of immigrants who came before her paved their own paths. She knew she would, too.

NOTE FROM THE NURSES

Dear families, in the event your household has a positive COVID case we wanted to share some helpful information.

  • Quarantine for the person who tested positive is a minimum of 5 days from the day symptoms begin OR their positive test results if there are no symptoms. Whichever comes first.

  • After the 5th day of quarantine, if the person who tested positive feels well enough to engage in work/learning/activities, they may end their quarantine. The CDC recommends wearing a mask through the 10th day of having COVID.

  • Please report your positive test result to the Vermont Dept. of Health by clicking this link and following these instructions. https://bit.ly/ReportMyPositiveTestVDH

  • Be sure to inform attendance on the days your student will be absent.
