PICTURES & NEWS

FIRE DRILL COMPLETED

The whole school quietly evacuated the building and sports fields on Wednesday afternoon for a fire drill. It all went smoothly. After everyone was accounted for, students returned to class or resumed their outdoor activities.

SACS HOME CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING RACE

Teams from Georgia, SATEC (Town School) and Fairfield came to compete with our athletes on Tuesday afternoon, 9-20-2022. We got lucky with the weather as the rain had stopped and there was little wind. Temperatures were perfect for running. Runners completed slightly more than two laps around the edge of school property (3,000 meters or slightly less than 2 miles). The top time for girls was 13:27 and for the boys it was 11:27 minutes. If you want to test your running ability on the same course you can follow the route using this map. Check out these 75 pictures of our team’s runners and a few of the top runners from the other schools. Our current team is really young with a lot of potential for the future. Everyone showed grit during their races.

STRINGED INSTRUMENT PRACTICE - CHARPENTIER

Mr. Charpentier worked with this group of students on their violin playing skills. 9-21-2022. Link to 16 Pictures.

MORNING BAND PRACTICE - KELLY

The players were photographed during early morning practice under the intense and positive direction of Mr. Kelly. Link to 43 Pictures.

SCHOOL COUNSELORS

Two of the three school counselors visited with Triumph 4th grade on Wednesday morning just as they have been doing many other classroom groups around the school. Their goal was to introduce themselves and explain how they can be of help in a variety of ways. They used fun props that they pulled out of a tool box to explain where they can typically be found and what issues they can help students deal with. Check out the picture of the plastic grasshopper that they used to tell students that they can help them resolve problems that are bugging them. Ms. Hersey, Mr. Stark made a connection with the students and appeared very accessible.

TRIUMPH 4TH GRADE APPLE PICKING - DRAPER

Team Triumph is responsible for managing the fruit trees and bushes of the school. On Wednesday 9-21-2022, Ms. Draper led her 4th grade students out to the orchard where they picked a bucket and bag of apple and pears to make sauce with later in the day. The trees were planted about nine years ago by 7th and 8th graders. The fruit the trees grow is imperfect since it receives no sprays to discourage insects, birds and molds. Even so, the 4th graders found plenty of good fruit for making apple/pear sauce. Link to 10 Pictures.

NAVIGATORS PRE-WRITING SKILLS - EMMONS

Mrs. Emmons's prek/k class learned all about may man today. This is one of our beginning pre-writing skills that we focus on every year! They did great singing the song and drawing their own mat man’s:)  Link to 17 Pictures.

RENAISSANCE

On Wednesdays this 7th & 8th grade team has decided to come to school wearing "comfortable clothes". These were the students who felt fine being photographed. 9-21-2022

NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH - BOOKS TO CONSIDER IN THE LIBRARY

Did you know it is National Hispanic Heritage Month? It is celebrated in the U.S. from September 15 to October 15 and recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements in the United States. Checkout these books in our library today!

Juana loves many things — drawing, eating Brussels sprouts, living in Bogotá, Colombia, and especially her dog, Lucas, the best amigo ever. She does not love wearing her itchy school uniform, solving math problems, or going to dance class. And she especially does not love learning the English. Why is it so important to learn a language that makes so little sense? But when Juana’s abuelos tell her about a special trip they are planning—one that Juana will need to speak English to go on—Juana begins to wonder whether learning the English might be a good use of her time after all. Hilarious, energetic, and utterly relatable, Juana will win over los corazones — the hearts — of readers everywhere in her first adventure, presented by namesake Juana Medina.

Mia’s abuela has left her sunny house with parrots and palm trees to live with Mia and her parents in the city. While they cook, Mia helps Abuela learn English, and Mia learns some Spanish, too, but it’s still hard for Abuela to learn enough words to tell Mia her stories. Then Mia sees a parrot in the pet-shop window and has the perfecto idea for how to help them all communicate a little better. Here is an endearing tale that speaks loud and clear about the love that binds families across the generations.
