Today first grade learned about turkeys and why they have red on their heads. We learned that it a turkey has a red head and beautiful colored feathers it’s a male but if it has a plain head and plain feathers than it is a female. We then made our own fancy turkeys and watched them walk down a string doing a typical walk they do when they are showing off their feathers all fanned out!  Link to 7 Pictures.

ADVENTURERS PREK STEAM - KOSKI & RANKIN

Ms. Darcie Rankin, one of the key STEAM teachers, has discovered that stacks of plastic cups and large tongue depressors provide all the tools young children need to play and build with for quite awhile. It is fun seeing what students will do with these items when encouraged play and build with the items. Link to 22 Pictures.

NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH - BOOKS TO CONSIDER IN THE LIBRARY

Did you know it is National Hispanic Heritage Month? It is celebrated in the U.S. from September 15 to October 15 and recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements in the United States. Checkout these books in our library today!

Xiomara Batista feels unheard and unable to hide in her Harlem neighborhood.  Ever since her body grew into curves, she has learned to let her fists and her fierceness do the talking.  This young adult novel by Hispanic author Elizabeth Acevedo has won several awards and is a great read for our older students!

This picture book biography follows Frida Kahlo’s start as an artist and how she integrated her unique way of looking at the world into her art.
