COOL EXPLORERS SWEET POTATO PROJECT - WEISBURGH

Please check out this link to see an expanded story of how the team grew, harvested and ate sweet potatoes grown in the raised garden beds in the outdoor classroom space next to the school flag.

NAVIGATORS PREK/KINDERGARTEN - EMMONS

In Mrs. Emmons’ classroom the children have been learning all about leaves! We have been painting with leaves, creating lead projects, learning the science behind leaves, and so much more. On Thursday we raked up the leaves and the kids jumped in them. It was a beautiful Autumn blustery day for it! Then after we did a classroom leaf toss! It was a awesome couple of weeks:) Just a lot of play and fun!  Link to 65 Pictures.

IMAGINATION 1ST GRADE AND VOYAGERS 5TH GRADE STEAM - BACHAND, BASHAW

Once again the two classrooms paired with each other in an engineering activity. The Voyagers came down to Ms. Bachand’s classroom where she started the lesson with a read-aloud of the Three Billy Goats Gruff story. This led to the goal of building a bridge like the ones the goats crossed over. Using popsicle sticks, skewers, tape and sheets of paper, groups of older and younger students worked together to make strong bridges. Teachers tested the quality of the work by loading them up with large stuffed toys. It was a happy and animated group of students. Link to 50 Pictures.

EXCEPTIONAL PICTURES BOOKS IN OUR LIBRARY

The Red Clover book awards are a list of exceptional picture books created by librarians around the state since 1997.  Each of these texts are in our school library and here you will find resources that go with each book.

Dougie has a secret: he’s not a ground beetle.  He’s a dung beetle, and he loves eating poop.

Dougie knows he should be proud. Dung beetles help process waste and do other extraordinary things! But Dougie also knows that if anyone at school saw his lunch, he’d be an outcast.

One day, the lunchroom bugs out over a classmate eating poop, and Dougie must make a choice. Can he stand up for his friend―and for his true self?

I Eat Poop. is packed with important social emotional learning themes and is great for classroom or at home discussion. Read I Eat Poop. for conversations about:

- Bullying and being kind

- Standing up for your friends and speaking up for your beliefs

- Being proud of your culture and heritage

- Embracing diversity and accepting and celebrating differences

The book also includes incredible, STEM-related facts about bugs.
