2022 FRANKLIN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIPS

This past Tuesday, 10-25-2022, our runners took part a large cross country event organized by our school and held on the Hard’ack fields and trails. Seventy two girls and sixty five boys from nine teams ran 3000 meters which is just short of two miles. While the weather was extremely pleasant for spectators, it was pretty warm for some of the runners who tend to do better in cooler conditions. Usually late October meets are wet and cold. This one was dry except for the finish line where several runners lost their shoes in the wet and muddy ground, including one of our athletes. She kept on running. Huge numbers of spectators came to cheer on the runners and parking was maxed out. Thanks to all the teachers and administrative helpers who made sure the race went smoothly. Thanks also to the BFA cross-country coach, Mike Mashtare for laying out the course and doing the timing.

LEARNING ABOUT GOVERNMENT

Students in 4-6th grades are learning about representation in a government. Each classroom has candidates who are making advertising material and running campaigns. Students in their learning communities will get a chance to vote for a president, a vice president and a representative. Soon a government will be formed in each community. These Discovery student candidates wanted to share a look at their campaign posters that are hanging in their community hallway.

RENAISSANCE WACKY WEDNESDAY 10-26-2022

The Wacky Wednesday Committee for this week planned the activity for the whole team. The team got to go to the gym to play "The Balloon Game," where the goal is to be the last student standing, keeping the balloon off the ground. Link to 12 Pictures from Mr. Jetter.

MARCHING BAND PRACTICE

Mr. Kelly is getting the senior band to practice marching around the gym on some mornings each week. The crew are loud and they sound good. 10-27-2022

EXCEPTIONAL PICTURE BOOKS IN OUR LIBRARY

The Red Clover book awards are a list of exceptional picture books created by librarians around the state since 1997.  Each of these texts are in our school library and here you will find resources that go with each book.

Yusuf Azeem has spent all his life in the small town of Frey, Texas—and nearly that long waiting for the chance to participate in the regional robotics competition, which he just knows he can win.

Only, this year is going to be more difficult than he thought. Because this year is the twentieth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, an anniversary that has everyone in his Muslim community on edge.

With “Never Forget” banners everywhere and a hostile group of townspeople protesting the new mosque, Yusuf realizes that the country’s anger from two decades ago hasn’t gone away. Can he hold onto his joy—and his friendships—in the face of heartache and prejudice?

Ever since Ellie wore a whale swimsuit and made a big splash at her fifth birthday party, she's been bullied about her weight. To cope, she tries to live by the Fat Girl Rules—like "no making waves," "avoid eating in public," and "don't move so fast that your body jiggles." And she's found her safe space—her swimming pool—where she feels weightless in a fat-obsessed world. In the water, she can stretch herself out like a starfish and take up all the room she wants. It's also where she can get away from her pushy mom, who thinks criticizing Ellie's weight will motivate her to diet. Fortunately, Ellie has allies in her dad, her therapist, and her new neighbor, Catalina, who loves Ellie for who she is. With this support buoying her, Ellie might finally be able to cast aside the Fat Girl Rules and starfish in real life--by unapologetically being her own fabulous self.
