CANDIDATE FORUM AT ST. ALBANS CITY SCHOOL

Team USA and Team Renaissance hosted the local candidates for a forum on Wednesday 10/26.  A small group of 8th graders organized the event by soliciting the candidates to join the event and setting the structure for the night.  8th graders from both teams generated numerous questions and pulled them into a few questions for the night.  Our SACS students did a nice job hosting and participating in the forum by asking questions, moderating, videoing or capturing several pictures.  Thank you to our students for representing City School so well.

TEAM TRIUMPH VOTING FOR TEAM REPRESENTATIVES

Team Triumph students had the option of running to be a representative for their learning community. Those that agreed to do so, made posters and gave speeches to their fellow students. Students from USA set up a station to hand out and collect ballots from Team Triumph students on Friday, 10-28-2022. It was all done very professionally. Triumph students presented their names at the station. At that point they were checked off a registered voter list and then given a ballot to fill in privately. Once they had made their choices, they returned to the table where they were checked off the list again as they handed over their folded completed ballot. All ballots were placed in a sealed box until voting was finished. Votes were tabulated and representatives elected. Link to 7 Pictures.

EXCEPTIONAL PICTURE BOOKS IN OUR LIBRARY

The Red Clover book awards are a list of exceptional picture books created by librarians around the state since 1997.  Each of these texts are in our school library and here you will find resources that go with each book.

Samples:

When twelve-year-old Maddie hatches a scheme for a secret sleepover with her two best friends, she ends up waking up to a nightmare. She’s alone—left behind in a town that has been mysteriously evacuated and abandoned.

With no one to rely on, no power, and no working phone lines or internet access, Maddie slowly learns to survive on her own. Her only companions are a Rottweiler named George and all the books she can read. After a rough start, Maddie learns to trust her own ingenuity and invents clever ways to survive in a place that has been deserted and forgotten.

As months pass, she escapes natural disasters, looters, and wild animals. But Maddie’s most formidable enemy is the crushing loneliness she faces every day. Can Maddie’s stubborn will to survive carry her through the most frightening experience of her life?

There lived a girl named Petra Peña, who wanted nothing more than to be a storyteller, like her abuelita.

But Petra's world is ending. Earth has been destroyed by a comet, and only a few hundred scientists and their children – among them Petra and her family – have been chosen to journey to a new planet. They are the ones who must carry on the human race.

Hundreds of years later, Petra wakes to this new planet – and the discovery that she is the only person who remembers Earth. A sinister Collective has taken over the ship during its journey, bent on erasing the sins of humanity's past. They have systematically purged the memories of all aboard – or purged them altogether.

Petra alone now carries the stories of our past, and with them, any hope for our future. Can she make them live again?
