TRIUMPH AT THE ST. ALBANS FREE LIBRARY

Students from Triumph bundled up for the cold and windy conditions and trekked up to the St. Albans Library on Tuesday morning. Once there, they got a tour of the library areas, got library cards and they learned how to check out books. The pictures Ms. Draper shared showed the students exploring some of the activity rooms available to children and adults. Many happy non-school hours have been spent at the library by our students over the years.  Link to 7 Pictures.

BACK IN TIME - 1980 YEARBOOK

The Family Resources menu on the St. Albans City School website contains an option for viewing the SACS yearbooks going back to the 1970s.

Here are a few pictures from the 1980 Yearbook Link.

Just a couple of observations... In that year there were 126 graduating 8th graders. Our 8th-grade numbers are now a little more than half that amount. The building was exceedingly full back 43 years ago and it is still very full. We just use it differently now and we have more early-age children on campus.

Samples of the graduates back then.

Gymnastics was a highly popular physical activity in the school at the time. Liability issues and changing interests in sports across the country gradually changed that.

Folk dancing was a prominent part of Physical Education.

EXCEPTIONAL PICTURE BOOKS IN OUR LIBRARY

The Red Clover book awards are a list of exceptional picture books created by librarians around the state since 1997.  Each of these texts are in our school library and here you will find resources that go with each book.

Samples:

In the hottest hour of the hottest day of the year, a fateful wind blows into Oaxaca City. It whistles down cobbled streets and rustles the jacaranda trees before slipping into the window of an eleven-year-old girl named Clara. Unbeknownst to her, Clara has been marked for la LoterĂa.

Life and Death deal the LoterĂa cards but once a year, and the stakes could not be higher. Every card reveals a new twist in Clara’s fate—a scorpion, an arrow, a blood-red rose. If Life wins, Clara will live to a ripe old age. If Death prevails, she’ll flicker out like a candle.

But Clara knows none of this. All she knows is that her young cousin Esteban has vanished, and she’ll do whatever it takes to save him, traveling to the mythical Kingdom of Las Pozas, where every action has a price, and every choice has consequences. And though it seems her fate is sealed, Clara just might have what it takes to shatter the game and choose a new path.

Katie is dreading the boring summer ahead while her best friends are all away at camp--something that's way out of Katie and her mom's budget, UNLESS Katie can figure out a way to earn the money for camp herself. But when Katie gets a job catsitting for her mysterious upstairs neighbor, life get interesting. First, Madeline has 217 cats (!) and they're not exactly . . . normal cats. Also, why is Madeline always out EXACTLY when the city's most notorious villain commits crimes?! Is it possible that Katie's upstairs neighbor is really a super villain? Can Katie wrangle a whole lot of wayward cats, save a best friendship (why is Beth barely writing back? And who's this boy she keeps talking about?!), AND crack the biggest story in the city's history? Some heroes have capes . . . Katie has cats!
