PICTURES

RENAISSANCE SCIENCE - LOUCY

Being able to use a microscope is a very useful skill for a variety of science projects. When these pictures were taken, Ms. Loucy was taking the time to teach each student in her classroom the skills needed to operate basic microscopes. She had students cut out a printed alphabetical letter (an E) from document and then examine that tiny letter magnified hugely with a microscope. Students were able to see more than the inked letter. They were able to see the fibers in the paper. Ms. Loucy also brought in an onion so that students could cut off a layer to examine the cells within it. Ms. Loucy also had slides of numerous other cells and materials ready for examination. Microscopes illuminate the reality of a whole world invisible to our unmagnified eyes.  Link to 16 Pictures.

TRAVELERS 1ST GRADE ANATOMY LESSONS - CULLIGAN

The first graders in our school are all learning about human anatomy. They have learned about the skeletal, muscular and digestive systems through project-based experiences that make studying anatomy truly fun. On Tuesday, 11-8-2022, the students in Ms. Culligan’s classroom took turns making an adult-sized poster showing blood flow around the body. While waiting their turn at this task, they practiced their writing skills on regular sheets of papers they had used to draw people their circulatory systems. Link to 24 Pictures.

RENAISSANCE BASKETBALL PE - JARVIS AND ANDREWS

The two PE teachers for 7th & 8th grades, Ms. Jarvis and Ms. Andrews, put the students through a variety of basketball handling drills. Often, the drill involved mild levels of competition to spice things up. Link to 31 Pictures.  Link to 30-second video clip of a basketball tag game.

STATE MIDDLE SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS - GRUDEV

These pictures were overlooked in error when they were submitted over a week ago for the announcements. They show the runners who participated in a large gathering of elementary and middle school athletes competing in the state meet at Hard’ack at the end of the season. The Red Clover book awards are a list of exceptional picture books created by librarians around the state since 1997.  Each of these texts are in our school library and here you will find resources that go with each book.

If no one notices Marya Lupu, is likely because of her brother, Luka. And that’s because of what everyone knows: that Luka is destined to become a sorcerer.

The Lupus might be from a small village far from the capital city of Illyria, but that doesn’t matter. Every young boy born in in the kingdom holds the potential for the rare ability to wield magic, to protect the country from the terrifying force known only as the Dread.

For all the hopes the family has for Luka, no one has any for Marya, who can never seem to do anything right. But even so, no one is prepared for the day that the sorcerers finally arrive to test Luka for magical ability, and Marya makes a terrible mistake. Nor the day after, when the Lupus receive a letter from a place called Dragomir Academy—a mysterious school for wayward young girls. Girls like Marya.

Soon she is a hundred miles from home, in a strange and unfamiliar place, surrounded by girls she’s never met. Dragomir Academy promises Marya and her classmates a chance to make something of themselves in service to one of the country’s powerful sorcerers. But as they learn how to fit into a world with no place for them, they begin to discover things about the magic the men of their country wield, as well as the Dread itself—things that threaten the precarious balance upon which Illyria is built.

Meet Erik Sheepflattener. Each member of his modern-day Viking-heritage family has a motto to live by. His parents have Family and Pride. His sisters have Conquer and Win. His grandfather has Turnip. But Erik is developing a motto he can truly believe in: Avoid Stuff.

Mostly, Erik’s fierce family ignores or discounts him, especially when he tries to say no. But while spending the summer with his rough-and-tumble cousins and older sister Brunhilde in Minnesota, axe-wielding Bru gets the idea to name and Conquer all of Erik’s fears. Will anyone hear him say no before it’s too late? And will Erik end up defined by his fears, or by his fearless family?

Erik vs. Everything is an adventurous, humorous, and heartfelt romp about finding your place, speaking up for yourself, and pursuing what you love . . . even when it scares you.
