CLASSROOM GROUPS TALLIED VOTES TO HELP NAME A VERMONT SNOW PLOUGH

The state of Vermont just offered our students a chance to name a snow plough. On Monday morning (11-7-2022) classrooms around the building tabulated votes for the six names proposed by our kindergarteners. In Ms. Murphy’s room, there were high numbers for several names. Snow Ninja ended up being their top choice. It will be interesting to see what wins out when all votes are tallied. Link to 4 Pictures.

INVESTIGATORS 3RD GRADE ART - COSTANTINO

This was an inspiring art class with well focused students who soaked in their lesson. First, several students had a chance to present and explain their own art completed in a previous class session. The audience of students asked questions and made constructive comments. Then, Mr. Costantino reviewed a variety of artworks created by Pablo Picasso in the previous century. The goal was to show that Picasso had a number of periods and styles in his career. In the blue period his work used a lot of cool temperature blue colors and his subjects were painted realistically with an aura of sadness, trauma and depression. Later, there was a period where he chose warmer colors and less realistic but more upbeat subjects -colorful circus members or musicians as examples. Mr. Costantino’s students were then asked to draw pictures that reflected their own cool and warm images of people. They will color these pictures in during the next class session. Link to 30 Pictures.

NAVIGATORS PREK/KINDERGARTEN - EMMONS

In Mrs. Emmons prek/k classroom the children have been learning all about the harvest season. We made homemade applesauce in the classroom which was delicious. We used one of the apple skins to do a math activity where we measured how long it was with cubes, then kids and even teachers. The children helped our Navigator team build our scarecrow for Harvest day. We had spider races, and we catapulted spiders and bats, we raced with spoons and we played outside and had so much fun. We also learned how to draw a scarecrow. We will continue with this theme throughout the week:)   Link to 80 Pictures from Ms. Emmons.

INVESTIGATORS 2ND GRADE MAKERSPACE TIME - RANKIN

The students were photographed in the last minutes of their session as they were finishing up their paper skyscrapers. They seemed to have had fun making their really tall buildings. Link to 14 Pictures.

STUDENTS WANT THE ADULTS TO VOTE

You can tell that instruction on government is having an impact. Everywhere you look there are student-made signs urging those who can vote to do so on November 8th.

EXCEPTIONAL PICTURE BOOKS IN OUR LIBRARY

The Red Clover book awards are a list of exceptional picture books created by librarians around the state since 1997.  Each of these texts are in our school library and here you will find resources that go with each book.

Samples:

Meryl Lee Kowalski is sent to a girls' boarding school in fall 1968 to move on from her grief over a close friend's death. Matt Coffin is on the run from a criminal gang, afraid that anyone he cares about is at risk. When their paths cross, the pair’s connection begins to shape each of their lives. As their loneliness is gradually replaced by friendship, Meryl Lee finds unexpected allies and a sense of purpose, while Matt finds a new family and hope for the future.

As World War II comes to a close, the United States and the Soviet Union emerge as the two greatest world powers on extreme opposites of the political spectrum. After the United States showed its hand with the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, the Soviets refuse to be left behind. With communism sweeping the globe, the two nations begin a neck-and-neck competition to build even more destructive bombs and conquer the Space Race. In their battle for dominance, spy planes fly above, armed submarines swim deep below, and undercover agents meet in the dead of night.

The Cold War game grows more precarious as weapons are pointed towards each other, with fingers literally on the trigger. The decades-long showdown culminates in the Cuban Missile Crisis, the world's close call with the third―and final―world war.

Horah! Hooray!

We’ve finally reached the day!

So wait no more

 it’s the SCHOOL STORE!

Horah! Horah! Hooray!

Dear Families,

The Voyager Team is excited to reopen the Raider’s Treasure Chest! Though most things are the same there are a few changes. We are not open for students during their lunch. Teams will need to set up a time for their students to shop. We are also limiting students to no more than two items per visit. Most items are priced under a dollar and no item is priced over two dollars. If you choose to have your child shop at the school store they would need no more than a dollar or two.

The goal of the school store is to provide all of our students with experience handling money and balancing needs with wants.  For school store employees there is also the chance to order, stock, and interact with the public. Our students are incredibly proud of the store. We work hard to provide inexpensive products

We also have students working on researching greener products and packaging as well. The school store is a part of the Voyager experience and we hope it will be a part of yours as well.
