VOYAGERS/IMAGINATION MENTORING SESSION

Once again the Voyagers 5th graders and Imagination 1st graders were paired for an activity on a Friday (12-2-2022). Ms. Bachand shared pictures of the students spelling and doing math on table tops covered with shaving cream. Quite a bit of mess. Lots of fun. 12-2-2022.  Link to 21 Pictures.

SPANISH CLASS - PRITCHARD

Students have been learning Spanish through project-based-learning tasks. In this case, Ms. Pritchard asked students to pick a Central or South American city and make up to four slides about it. They had to note the present season of year where their chosen city is located and express what the weather is like with a few specific temperature or rainfall numbers. They also had to present an activity they would like to do there, what time it would take place and for how long. The cost of the activity would also need to be mentioned. Colorful pictures of the city and activities needed to be found. Finally, they had to bravely stand in front of their peers and present their slide show in Spanish. They all did extremely well and will clearly be ready to launch into more extensive Spanish language classes once they move on to BFA. Link to 7 Photos.

SKIING OPPORTUNITY FOR 6TH-8TH GRADERS

Jay Peak Season’s Pass

We will have a limited number of Jay Peak Season’s Passes for students in grades 6-8. These will be useful for families that ski. Discounted equipment rentals are available. Transportation to and from the mountain is not included. Yet, for students that will have access to use this pass, we want to make it available.

Any student that would like to have access to a pass and feels they will be able to make use of it, please write a letter of request to Mr. Craib and explain how you are a Safe, Achieving, Caring member of our school community.  Mr. Craib will create the list that goes to Jay Peak. The deadline for letters of request is December 9th

LIBRARY BOOKS

Check out some of the books in our library that honor and celebrate human rights!

William Still's parents escaped slavery but had to leave two of their children behind, a tragedy that haunted the family. As a young man, William went to work for the Pennsylvania Anti-Slavery Society, where he raised money, planned rescues, and helped freedom seekers who had traveled north. One day, a strangely familiar man came into William's office, searching for information about his long-lost family. Could it be?  Motivated by his own family's experience, William Still began collecting the stories of thousands of other freedom seekers. As a result, he was able to reunite other families and build a remarkable source of information, including encounters with Harriet Tubman, Henry "Box" Brown, and William and Ellen Craft.

Ever since she was a little girl, Jane Addams hoped to help people in need. She wanted to live right in the middle of the roughest, poorest communities and create a place where people could go to find food, work, and help. In 1889, she bought a house in a run-down Chicago neighborhood and turned it into a settlement home, adding on playgrounds, kindergartens, and a public bath. By 1907, Hull House included thirteen buildings. And by the early 1920s, more than 9,000 people visited Jane's home each week. An inspiration to all, Jane Addams continues to be a role model to girls and women of all ages.
