PICTURES & NEWS STUDENTS ARE HAVING THEIR CHANCE TO INTERVIEW PRINCIPAL CANDIDATES Student representatives from all the learning communities from youngest to oldest have been meeting the principal candidates in one of our main meeting rooms. After candidates introduced themselves, the students have had a chance to ask any questions that come to mind. Questions on Thursday were wide ranging and very relevant to the students' experience of the school. Ultimately, the students were curious to see how comfortable it was to interact with the candidates in the eventuality that any one of them would become our new principal. Link to Pictures of the interview sessions on Thursday, 1-12-2023. TROUT - ROULEAU Each school year, Team USA and Mr. Rouleau hatch and nurture trout in their learning community. Once the trout reach a certain size in the spring, students release them into waterways in the region. The pictures below are of the trout eggs when they arrived last Thursday and also how they appeared Thursday morning this week (1-12-2023). The eggs have started to hatch and you can see the alevin, or baby fish, as black lines in the photo. If you look closely at the eggs that have not hatched, you can see two black dots in each egg. These dots are the eyes of the fish.

BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY Have you set a goal for yourself in the new year? January is a great time to make a resolution and this month we will be highlighting books in our library that focus on goal setting and growth. Since he was a young boy growing up in the Austrian Empire, Nikola was fascinated by science and numbers. His teachers knew he had a brilliant mind, but Nikola’s irregular routines and fondness for playing cards meant that he was kicked out of school before he could finish his exams. However, after working for a spell at the Budapest Telephone Exchange, where he made several clever innovations to their electrical systems, he managed to get a job with Edison Machine Works in the United States, in New York. In the US, Tesla’s inquisitive nature and ingenious mind spurred him on to keep exploring electricity, and he came up with several groundbreaking inventions during this time, including breakthroughs in alternating current and wireless remote controls. By the end of his life, the brilliant inventor had more than 300 patents for original and unique inventions, and had advanced scientific thought by a generation. Mia Hamm, American soccer champion and bestselling author of Go for the Goal, tells a true-life-inspired story in this picture book. Winners Never Quit! can help with the emotional side of playing sports—how to deal with a loss without getting angry or quitting, and how to be a good teammate. A strong choice for the young athlete in your family or classroom. Soccer superstar Mia Hamm knows the value of teamwork and perseverance. She shares this lesson, paired with energetic illustrations by Carol Thompson, in this motivational story. |
