PICTURES AND NEWS MAPLE FEST PARTICIPATION Many students from our school marched in the parade this past Sunday. The weather cooperated and the crowds were large. Thanks to everyone who represented St. Albans City School at the event and to those who came to watch the parade. Link to NBC Channel 5’s news piece about the parade. Link to Pictures of the Parade. PEAR TREES BLOOMING Mr. Rouleau from Team USA noticed that our pear trees were blooming over the last weekend. See the picture below. The pear and apple trees in our orchard were planted ten years ago by 7th and 8th graders. Fruit has been produced by the trees the majority of years since they were planted. When students return to school in the Fall the apples and pears will be ready to eat. NAVIGATORS ON THE PLAYGROUND - LAWYER Ms. Asato-Ditch shared pictures of Ms. Lawyer's students on the large playground before spring break. Link to 18 Photos. |

CLIMATE COMMITTEE WHOLE-SCHOOL GOAL FOR MAY Our goal is to have more people ride the bus or walk/bike to school during the month of May. Why? We have learned from the Vermont Energy Education Program that how we choose to travel to and from school impacts our climate. Check out the numbers below to see how our transportation choices result in different amounts of Carbon Dioxide (a planet warming gas) being added to our atmosphere. If we walk, bike or bus, we could be getting to school with minimal greenhouse gas production.
How about hopping on your school bus or walking and biking to school on Wednesdays and Fridays when we have scheduled events this May? |

SUMMER FOOD ASSISTANCE Vermont will be issuing a final round of Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefits for Summer 2023. All students at our school qualify for a Summer P-EBT benefit of $120 per student. This is because of the way that we are offering free school meals to all students this year.
The benefit will be sent to the head of household and mailing address that we have on file for your student. If you have moved or need to update the head of household, please let us know by Wednesday, May 10th. To make changes, please contact Jennifer Seymour at Jseymour@maplerun.org
These benefits will be sent out by mid-August. If your student missed school for a COVID-related reason between February 2023 and May 11, 2023, you will receive benefits for those days at the same time.
Please see Frequently‐Asked Questions (FAQs) About School Pandemic EBT (P‐EBT) for more information. If you need to request a new card or have more questions about P-EBT, visit https://dcf.vermont.gov/esd/P-EBT or call 1‐800‐479‐6151, option 7. This institution is an equal opportunity provider. |

LIBRARY
May is Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month! This month celebrates the unique journey of all AAPI immigrants and citizens in the United States and their unique life experiences, traditions and cultures. Look for these books in our library to help you honor and celebrate the historical and cultural contributions of individuals and groups of Asian and Pacific Islander descent. A heartfelt story of a young girl seeking beauty and connection in a busy world. As the seasons change, so too does a young Hmong girl's world. She moves into a new home with her family and encounters both birth and death. As this curious girl explores life inside her house and beyond, she collects bits of the natural world. But who are her treasures for? Eyes that Kiss in the Corners by Joanna Ho and illustrated by Dung Ho The little boy feels sad seeing a classmate’s hurtful picture showing his eyes as two lines. Later, looking at Agong’s wise eyes and Di-Di’s (baby brother) eyes like his, eyes that Baba says rise up to the sky and speak to the stars, the boy feels pride in his powerful, visionary eyes. Empowering and important. |
