PICTURES & NEWS VOYAGERS WORKED ON THE WOODLAND PATHWAYS - BASHAW & CHISHOLM Team Voyagers oversee the pathways going through the wetlands and woodlands of St. Albans City School. Each year they secure wood chips to cover the pathways in addition to trimming grass, shrubs and tree branches so that groups of students can travel comfortably on those trails. The pictures below show the students working last Thursday afternoon when they transported and deposited many wheelbarrow loads of wood chips to the northern entry point of the trail. LIBRARY
June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month. During this month-long celebration we recognize the resilience and determination of the many individuals who fight to live freely and authentically. In doing so, we are opening hearts and minds, and laying the foundation for a more just and equitable America. Please check out these books in our library today to learn more about people and characters that represent our diverse community! Whenever Ari's Uncle Lior comes to visit, they ask Ari one question: "What are your words?" Some days Ari uses she/her. Other days Ari uses he/him. But on the day of the neighborhood's big summer bash, Ari doesn't know what words to use. On the way to the party, Ari and Lior meet lots of neighbors and learn the words each of them use to describe themselves, including pronouns like she/her, he/him, they/them, ey/em, and ze/zir. As Ari tries on different pronouns, they discover that it's okay to not know your words right away--sometimes you have to wait for your words to find you. Ophelia Rojas knows what she likes: her best friends, Cuban food, rose-gardening, and boys – way too many boys. Her friends and parents make fun of her endless stream of crushes, but Ophelia is a romantic at heart. She couldn’t change, even if she wanted to. So when she finds herself thinking more about cute, quiet Talia Sanchez than the loss of a perfect prom with her ex-boyfriend, seeds of doubt take root in Ophelia’s firm image of herself. Add to that the impending end of high school and the fracturing of her once-solid friend group, and things are spiraling a little out of control. But the course of love—and sexuality—never did run smooth. As her secrets begin to unravel, Ophelia must make a choice between clinging to the fantasy version of herself she’s always imagined or upending everyone’s expectations to rediscover who she really is, after all. |
